Okay, now we're down to two names which both suit our baby Chiara or Noelle. Which one do you prefer? What are your views on Noelle - I think it is an elegant, musical sounding name, does it sound too Christmassy to you? Chiara (pronounced Kiara) is the Italian spelling and means light (imp. as I don't want it confused with Ciara, a Gaelic name pronounced Kee-ra which means black)... I don't mind correcting the spelling, by the way. There is this R&B singer, Ciara, does that ruin the name for you? Thanks for all detailed input or simple Chiara/Noelle votes!

I like Noelle best. I think it's feminine and beautiful. I don't think it's too Christmassy at all, and you're right, it's musical and elegant.

While Chiara sounds lovely when pronounced right, I think it would be pronounced wrong (Chee-Ar-Uh) too often. I think it sounds too much like Ciara, the singer.

Noelle.

I do find Noelle too Christmassy, though it's probably more apparent this time of year. With the holidays just around the corner, it's easy to spot the December babies, since Noelle will inevitably be on 90% of those parents' lists as either a first or middle name. Just very overdone and predictable this time of year. So it might depend on your due date, really. ;) If you're due in the spring, for example, it might not seem as overused and holiday-themed a choice ... at least not to the same extent.

And while I can fully appreciate Chiara -- especially if you're using it to reflect Italian roots ;) -- I would be very concerned about it simply blending in with all the little Ciara, Kiara, Kiera, Keira, Kira and Kyras out there at the moment. HUGELY popular, and any and all of those spellings (and a few I've likely forgotten) are used to get the popular KEER-a, kee-AR-a or see-AR-a pronunciations. So quite common, but confusing nonetheless. I'd likely go with lesser-used Clara, to be quite honest. The spelling and pronunciation are fairly clear-cut there -- and the subtle difference between KLAH-ra and KLER-a, depending on which you'd use, really isn't enough to cause that much hassle -- and you get the same meaning and even Italian link, if that was a bonus (KLAH-ra is used in Italy, after all).

Hope that helps. ;)

Both the names Noelle and Chiara are great names, but I like Noelle because even though Chiara is such a pretty name, I think it's a bit too cutesy. I went to school with a classmate name Noelia, it's (NO-WEL-YA). I have never heard of this unique name before. I believe it's the Sp. version of Noel, but a girl's name. That's another suggestion. But Noelle is a great name.

Ok, if I'm honest I don't particularly like either name but if I had to pick one it would be Noelle. Was she born around Christmas? I think it only really works if she was a Christmas baby anyway - people are always going to assume she is!

I'm afraid I do agree that Chiara is rather common (chavvy) sounding. I can just image someone with a cigarette and a pushchair shouting it as she dodges the dog poo on the pavement outside her house!

I really like the name Chiara for my future baby girl. I've been saving that name thrice but to no avail. Three boys are enough for me. Noelle is kinda christmassy, yes, but I can't see anything wrong with that. I think it won't make the name less beautiful. Well, if I were you, I would combine the two, Chiara Noelle. Just perfect for me. But hey, your heart's desire is what truly matters at the end of the day. ;)

I think Noelle is a pretty and more unusual name that goes better with the surname!

Chiara Kar... bit of a mouthful.

What about having Chiara as a middle name? I think this rolls off the tounge better.

I would pick Noelle. The Chiara and Kar together sounds too much like a tongue twister.
