i want to call her rachel or if its a boy nathan but my parter sais all nathans are idiots can a name dictate what type of person your going to be?

Well my nephew is called Nathan and he is actually very bright! But it is your choice on the name front.

Instead of Nathan, how about Ethan?

Names don't usually dictate what sort of person you are going to be.

I guess naming a baby is hard because sometimes we hear a name and can link it to someone we know with that name who were probably 'idiots' and so on.

You could also have Rachela for a girl if your girlfriend not overly keen on Rachel.

Maybe Nathanael may be better for a boy if she doesn't like Nathan.

Just go through some baby names book together and see which ones you like or both of you make a list, listing the top 10 baby names you like for a boy and then do another list of the girls. Then go through them and see if any of the ones you and your girlfriend have picked, match and then maybe go with that!

There are so many names to choose from, but it comes down to personal choice and finding one you both like!
I don't believe a name dictates a child's personality, but it does affect how we feel about that person to some degree!
Maybe your partner has had a bad time with one or more Nathans? She could have been bullied by one, teased, etc, and associates all Nathans with these bad traits! I don't like the name Elise for that reason, even though I know it isn't really logical to associate the bad thing/s with the bad person's name?!
If it triggers bad memories for her, maybe you could think of another name? You could maybe compromise and have it for a middle name?

No, a name can't dictate what kind of person your gonna be. I don't really like Nathan anyways though. My cousins name is Rachel Anne, and it fits her perfectly. It's a pretty name. For boys I like Braison, Tyler, or Charlie. For girls I like Hannah, Taylor, Noah or Juliet. Congrats and good luck!

Don't listen to your partner! A name has nothing to do with your personality. I like the name Nathan - go for it!

Your child will define whatever name is given to him or her, not be defined by it. Nathan and Rachel are both common. How about Natalia for a girl as a compromise, or Randall for a boy.
