This question is inspired by one of Rio Madeira's posts.

So many young women seem to be seduced into "feminism" because they see the word itself as "girlie" or "trendy" and they think it keeps them "in" with their peers. It's like a sort of Pavlovian response in a way.

They go on to believe that feminism offers them a "free lunch" - special preferential treatment, privileges, and exemptions under the law but without accepting any corresponding responsibilities. And they find themselves inculcated with hate notions such as "men are pigs" or "throw stones at boys".

Yours thoughts, please.

If you think feminism doesn't have men-bashing in it, please go to http://www.now.org

Look at the domestic violence language that is used.

Please realize that when you treat domestic violence like it's only men beating women, you are sending a very clear message about what you think about logic / men.

The statistics that domestic violence is 95% male on female violence is completely false.

Ever heard the "Super Bowl" myth?

http://www.snopes.com/crime/statistics/superbowl.asp

When feminists try to deny or minimize female on male violence, what does that tell you?

When the title of a domestic violence act is the Violence AGAINST WOMEN Act, what does that title suggest?

When you see that Andrea Dworkin (a man-hating, sexist bigot) is celebrated by mainstream feminists & not denounced as the vile person she was... what does that tell you?

I've heard that feminists aren't man-bashes & you know what? ...Some aren't.

...But when mainstream feminism contains blatant examples of harboring anti-male sexists & laws are enacted giving men less rights with demonizing & sexist titles, pardon some people for taking that at face value.

To answer the question:

Yes. People think feminism = equality. Look deeper. It doesn't.

A Pavlovian response is a response based on classical conditioning. Pavlovian responses are not the result of seduction. They are created by the pairing of a stimulus which naturally produces a response with a second stimulus which is naturally neutral. With this pairing, the neutral stimulus begins to induce the naturally occuring response on its own. So whether or not your point is valid, the psychology is wrong. What your talking about is more social learning than Pavlovian.

You have it completely wrong. What I meant was exactly the opposite of that. The Pavlovian response is: "EWWW! Feminism?!" They're seduced AWAY from it because they believe, like way too many others, that feminism truly is based on man-hating, non-shaving lesbianism. This is why so few women actually wear the label.

I don't understand why you want to only focus on the more extremist elements of this movement and not the more mainstream ones such as women having choices in their lives, being able to get an education and a career, and being able to choose if they want children or not. That's because you make it sound like you would actually prefer having things being the way they used to but don't want to come right out and admit it.

What are you banging on about it is a Pavlovian response. Ever see that dog salivate at the mouth? They do the same thing, though not as physically. You never see a feminist stand on her own do you? At least I never have. You never see them dare to be daring? I never have. Oh I just love that "men are pigs" slogan; when just a week or so, could be less, there was a post about women ejaculating themselves with male sperm just to get preggers. It didn't bother none o' them then that those men were so-called pigs.

it truly is genuine that oil agencies and different supporters of hypothesis's incompatible with AGW will play with a 'dirty' hand and use their funds and effect to do such issues as this, alongside with others. it truly is of no problem. the reality is there and we ought to attend to the project, no longer a lot less intertwined events like this. it is in truth predictable. I even ought to assert that it truly is predictable that there'll be idiots hacking e-mails on each and every part quicker or later. in case you go with to get into stuff like this you're going the incorrect way-it in simple terms distracts from the project. human beings will do some thing lol. it ought to easily be idiots this time too :).

Many women are horrified by the thought of being called a feminist. I dont think they call themselves one in order to fit in. Men bashing isnt feminism. Youve got the definition of feminism entirely wrong.

I personally don't find 'feminism' a trend. It is a way for women to empower themselves, such as they did to rally and change the constitution to vote (that's the 19th Amendment BTW). We've also 'rallied' to change laws against domestic abuse, such as a husband beating a wife (mine beat me when I was pregnant), so this is not 'trendy'. It is a way for women to gather and bring about positive change. But it's not just change for just women, but for health care, child care and other issues.

Yes, that's one of the manifestations of feminism, but it's not real feminism. That way of thinking/being is attractive to bitter, lazy, and myopic women. I wish feminists would be more aware of this and policed it more, because today, one woman being this way does more damage to their cause than 5 cheuvensist males being the way they are.

Those who are "seduced" into feminism which isn't now or ever been a cult, do so because they want equality.
