The only song by them that I currently know is "Grounded", which I really like. So, is this song typical of their style, and which of their records would you suggest I buy first?

Thanks.

I know what you mean, there's something about albums with a kind of lo-fi sound that I really love.

Yeah, I don't think you can go wrong with Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain - it's a favorite of mine. I've actually been throwing around the idea of introducing it back into my collection (another great album sold during my bought with poverty).

I've also heard some songs off Wowee Zowee and it seems to be an excellent release by Pavement as well...

I don't envy you for having to make this choice - it's a tough one.

My favorite Pavement album is Slanted and Enchanted, but if you really like the song "Grounded" then I might go for Wowee Zowee. And though an inconsistent album, it's very good and intriguing. Slanted and Enchanted is more of a lo-fi album, which does it for me. I'm a relatively new Pavement listener to, so I'd wait it out for somebody who really knows the band.

There's really only three options and none will disappoint you.

Slanted and Enchanted - said by critics to be their best album and one of the best of all time.
Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain - had their biggest hit song Cut Your Hair.
Wowee Zowee - has Grounded as well as Rattled by the Rush, great song.

I wouldn't mess with their last two albums for the first choice.

I'm not very familiar with them, so I'm not exactly sure. Prof. Anger is a pretty big fan - hopefully he will see this. :)
