If you're waiting for a pine stump to rot, you'll be waiting a looong time. The pine stumps often become harder over age, becoming super rich with sap and turning into what we call lightwood where I live.

Pines also generally have very long tap roots. So depending on the size of the tree, you may be have a heck of a lot of digging to do.

You can burn them out, but that's gonna take time too. You'll be burning for months to come, too. It's not gonna burn up and disappear in 2 or 3 days. When you figure in your labor, the amount of fuel you purchase to pour on the stumps to set them afire, you'll probably come out cheaper over the long haul to grind them.

Personally, I'd hire a stump grinder to come take care of them if it were my yard. They'll be gone in a couple days and your yard will be stump free.

Drill alot of holes in the stump with a long drill bit. this will cause it to rot naturally alot faster.

Honestly, the best way is to burn them out.
