It's meaning you never understand, when you are in love or not. It's rare because all changes around us, many became busy with higher responsibility, living requirements, new life styles, stress and manners. Most youth are just looking for some one to spend a nice time with might continue his/her life with in the end but rare happens.
It's rare because it worth the hard search. On the other hand a person gets lucky when he just find it by accident with no searching. It's just ... happens!! No introductions not in the right time always ...beybargel you know?

I always say love has different meaning for each person. I agree most with the answer of hope.
Any way I can add that true love is not the love we use to see in black and white films. At least it's the true love we have these days.
Nowadays people use to say words which they don't actually believe in it or apply it. Let us say that love now is verbal in most cases, but still the true love is there and it has to be rare as it's precious.

Real love is when you feel you're talking to your mirror or your inner conscious!!you feel comfortable,welcomed,always loved & evaluated!!you'll finely find your shelter!!you feel secured & never feel you're a burden!!this real love is very rare!!you may find it in your best friend or a teacher or your parents or your fiance & may be your husband or wife!!if it's real it will remain for a life time if it's not it will disappear after a while,it's too rare & hard to find between friends,you're lucky if you find in partener & you can testify this if it remains for a life time!!then you must have found your other half!!but the only real love that you can call pure 100% is one mutual between parents,daughters & sons!!exept in some rare cases!!I can find that this is the only available real love these days!!because every other love seems vertual or may be it disappears after every one is busy with his life!!if you are kind enough & loyal to your friends you'll find some of them seeking you after so many years apart!!you must be sure at this moment that these are your real loved ones!!

Real love.......OK, it begins with emotions that cannot be explained, then a strange coincidence in beliefs, viewpoints, attitude and simply everything.
Why is it rare?
'cause you're in search of a very unique, special one that cannot be replaced by another, which deserves some patience till you find such a "special" one.

the term is TRUE LOVE , as opposed to playing with love and saying what isnt true.
True Love stands the trials of time.
it is like gold, never changes. it may get rusty, but never changes to brass or tin.
your heart tells you when you encounter the right person.
the chemistry works.
