The USA, UK, Nato march into Afghanistan and Iraq, but come down heavily on Turkey for threatening north Iraq.
I had a very interesting conversation with a Turkish Kurd, yesterday, and he put this question to me. He's not PKK and he's not Muslim, but although he and his family have been subjected to imprisonment and persecution in Turkey, he still resents outside agencies telling Turkey what to do.
Normally he's Kurdish first and Turkish second, but it's still his country, for good or ill.

When did 'liberal' become a word of abuse?

My Tirkish.Kurdish friend didn't need to tell me about the Turks refusing to allow aircraft taking off from the USA airbase in Incirlik for Iraq in 1991.
He also didn't need to tell me that RAF/US aircraft bombed Turkish/Kurdish villages north of the Iraq- Turkey border in 1991. TurkeyRAF/A.
I don't need a Kurdish Turk to point out to me that Abdullah Öcalan (a founder member of thr PKK) was eventually captured and brought back to Turkey 24 hrs. before the 6 monthly US contract with the Turkish Govt. for using the military airbase in Incirlik was due for renewal.
My main question was: (for those who are hard of reading) Why is it OK for the USA to invade another country, and not for other countries?

OK, I made some mistakes in my details - mainly because I'm annoyed - a lot more annoyed than my Turkish/Kurdish friend.

God only knows. Sometimes I think we actually believe that foreigners don't love their own countries the way we love ours, and that they should be glad to be invaded.
(Remember, Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. Liberals were in FAVOR of going into Afghanistan and getting Bin Laden. Iraq was an entirely separate issue. We invaded there, because the administration wanted to -- it gave Bush a chance to outdo daddy.)

When countries have a madman dictator that threaten rhe world, governments that harbor terrorists and the scum that plotted 9-11, or pose a threat to humanity with nukes, send in the US MArines !
Your Turk/Kurd friend didn't say that Turkey refused to allow the US passage of troops to take out Saddam or that Turks and Kurds have been attacking each other for years.
The PKK IS a communist terrorist group. The Kurds would be well advised to hand them over. That doesn't mean Turkey gets a free hand here..they need to take it up with the Iraqis, since the Kurds are IN Iraq, not a country to themselves.

Because "God's On Their Side", "To Make The World A Safer Place For Democracy", "To Rid The World of Wicked Fascists/Communists/Terrorists/Imperialists "? etc. etc. etc. These are some of the excuses trotted out by the hypocrites. Power and Greed are the real reasons. To make rich people richer and poor people poorer.

The coalition did the right things in Iraq. The US did the right thing in Afghanistan. The PKK is doing the wrong thing. They should be ousted. It does not matter to me who does the ousting.

Could it possibly be, that the Northern Iraqui Kurds are sitting on vast oil reserves. I think that the Americans would prefer that those natural resources were under their (colonial)control, rather than another nation. Particularly an islamic nation.

Because we are Great Britain, Allied with America, we are tryin hold on to past glories of empire and the US is tryin to make a new "empire state" Both countries hold very similar cultural values and we see them as just and true, so if another country doesent hold those values they"have to be wrong" otherwise the UK/ US would have to look at its own belief system something Leaders "of the free world" don't like doing

You can't, so wondering: how much in bigger foreign aid bribe did getting Turkey to somewhat back off cost. Don't know enough about that action to know who's using it to grab something up or to suppress someone.

thats called hypocrisy
if you want to be in control you got to tell people what to do.
if you make wars it dosent mean you want others to mak war.
and besides Iraq is america big project , how do you thinkit will look if the contry they just "created" is threatened by another contry? dosent look good.
they dont care about the "peace". god hell no!
it all about how they will look like to their voters.
if they let Turkey attack Iraq they will look like losers. thats all.

Attack us again...kill a couple more thousand Americans....maybe this time we won't be so nice.....then you'll see what a REAL war is......being the super power in the region, we have to "lean" on some countries to keep them in line or there would be total chaos over there...and I know you libs aren't hoping for that are you??....well, I guess you are as long as you can pin it on George Bush...what a bunch of bozos.
