For a change look at it from business owners point of view. The unions and the labor party were sending many business owners to the wall. I am a business owner and for the life of me I can't see why I should have to pay you for being sick, for choosing to have a baby, for your husband to stay home to be with you after you've had a baby or pay you extra money just to go on holidays. I have no problem in paying overtime and paying a bit extra for it. Thats my choice if i ask you to work back then yes I should pay for it. The same for weekend and night work, I will happily pay for that also. Under the new workplace reforms business will prosper and when business prospers more people are employed, more people spend money and the whole economy benefits. Answer by surf3Ri *Second part of answer deleted as it doesn't relate to workchoices*

All workers should be very concerned. This is what you will be against. Just don't get sick, have a baby, by a home, ask for pay rise. God Help us all!!

Gengi M.....be careful what you say. Don't mention slavery, Howard might hear you. That might become a policy, because like workchoices it would be good for business and the economy. AND HELL FOR WORKERS!!! and their families!

Jonehd has hit the nail on the head with the answer that he has said, but I will go one bit further to add, I remember those that did struggle under a Liberal Govenment , before the 1960, times were hard and that there was not much work around for working families , when there was mouth's to feed and not having any work in the town that they lived in, so what did they to , most often it was the man that went searching for work and any kind of work that paid money , but also remembering that he was in competion with all the other's as well just for that one job. When Howard says that working families are better off , which families is he talking about, he has never suuffered personally the hardships that these people had to go through, Yes times were hard , we did not have the things we have today, as they were only just becoming a reality back then, We also had to pay for a Licence to have a radio, So I am the first to admit that the generation that I belong now is one of those that had a difficult upbringing than most as work was very scarce , now it looks like most have forgotton those years as well. Australia had better watch out because it is going to be a lot harder for the younger generation of childeren to gain any foot hold to better themselves in Education ,Health and the like , because the money is not being spent wisely by the Liberal Party at all

Do a little bit of research people, check out the conditions of the original factory workers - I mean those poor souls who came in from the farms to the newly founded factories in London at the birth of the Industrial revolution - truly horrific by our standards - but our standards are slipping as we allow more and ever more of our hard won rights to be taken away from us. We are in effect selling ourselves into slavery. I can remember the 1960's recession when men used to get up at 4 o'clock in the morning and walk the streets in the pouring rain to BEG employers for a days work and this was under a liberal government. I remember the wharf workers strikes at the time - and I can also remember the liberal government sending the police in on their chargers to trample the protesters down in the street - hundreds of them wound up in hospitals and the police were reviled by the common man while the liberal government smirked to themselves and hid behind their blue coated army. If the liberals are voted in again this WILL come again, Costello promised the business council in a meeting last year that that workchoices would be extended in the next term, so if you think the current stuff is bad enough I've got some bad news for you.

my boss from my first job, under payed me because of the new laws, the only resin i am able to recover the lost money is because, my parents didn't sign the contract.

my wages were 7.70 a hour with no overtime sick leave, or anything like that. just for reference that is lower then the minimum wage for a full time worker per hour but without any benefits.

and he was only able to do this because of work choices. so yes its good for business because it lets them cut costs, but so would slavery but we aren't proposing that are we?

and i wont have to worry about Jon Howard seeing my Post about slavery because it takes forever to load anything with Australia's current broadband.

Too many benefits were given to workers by laws and this time, laws must be passed for the benefit of the employers such as the right to compel the workers to render service to protect the business if needed.
