I know it's horrible, but I put my cats food bowl outside for her to nibble as and when she likes (also to stop my dog pinching it!!). Recently I noticed that some fly some eggs on the meat, after my cat had already eaten some. If she had eaten some eggs, will her stomach acids kill them, or will she be invaded by live maggots inside her - gulp!!

They will fester and eat your cat from the inside out.
It happened to my uncle after he ate a zucchini quiche.
We told him, but he wouldn't listen.

This used to happen to my cat's wet food too. Now I give him a little dry food each morning and at night (inside) a small can of wet food. The flies will not lay their eggs in dry food.

General rule of thumb, place the bowl down if the food isn't gone in 30 minutes take it away until he/she learns that food must be eaten right away. Don't give those maggots a head start.

Your cat will be fine. Her stomach acid will kill the maggots.

I would suggest you de-worm your cat twice a year in any case. If your cat is going outside, then it probably eating a whole host of "nasties", and even if inside then they will usually find something unpleasant to scoff. Get some stuff from the vet, rather than stuff from the supermarket, as the latter is pretty useless, even if a quarter of the price.
You're quite lucky really! My cats go outside and eat all sorts, but if they see so much as a couple of eggs on their cat food, I have to throw it.

Don't worry she will be fine. When you consider all the other things cats nibble at, mice, rats etc, a few fly eggs are nothing. I suggest if you want her to have something to nibble outside, try using dried food, flies don't like it as much, put down very small amounts and keep replenishing, that way there's less chance of any contamination, or your dog getting too fat!

Canned food should always be picked up after 30 minutes.

I don't like the idea of outdoor cats, so I am not going to comment on that, but it probably better all around to feed her inside so that you are not attracting other animals and bugs, and her food won't spoil so fast. I would be more concerned about her eating spoiled food rather than being concerned about fly eggs on the spoiled food.

She'll be fine. A big ol' glop of spider eggs might have been cause for concern but some fly eggs are nothing. Remember, they catch and eat flies in your house all the time anyway.

Don't worry, her stomach acid will kill the eggs. Just keep a closer eye on her food and put it away when she's finished with it.

Maggots won't hatch in her body. But if you see her excreting something that looks like little white maggots, only flatter, then she has tapeworms, which are easily remedied by a trip to the vet's office. These things aren't related, but just in case you do see little white things near her backside...

I agree with Crystal on this one!

You should feed your cat indoors and kick the dog out while
she is eating! If she is anything like my cat she doesn't eat all in one go (unless she's really hungry) so I only put her a
small amount. I would have thought she'd be sick if she
ate anything like that - not sure though! Minxy.

Did you serve some bacon and coffee with it?

Call the vet in the morning and find out.
