I would never create a hell. I would never punish anyone in agony forever over mistakes they made in life.

Does that make me more merciful than god?
If so, then the statement "god is most merciful" is wrong, and therefor religion texts are wrong

ya, thanks, it is not even just directed at christians and I'm not an against god or anything.

There must be a major point being missed here.

Look, I know I am not perfect mother therisa over here, but at the same time, I would never be that Cruel as to punish someone by burning them alive forever and ever.

well that is even more to the point.

--Punishment for not believing in him---

That is not something someone does on purpose. It is just that...well....they don't.

i think you might have gotten it all mixed up. u c, the whole concept f a merciful God is premised on the fact that He wll have mercy on us and heal s (heal our land).

The Bible did not say you wl never suffer. It did not say Christianity is/will be easy.It says, the cubs/young lion do suffer lack but those that wait upon the Lord will not suffer any good thing. Our faith n God will be tested from time to time. Bt that He will not test us with ore than we can endure. When you feel you are being punished for a mistake you did and things are not letting up, pray and pray hard.

Don't forget that the devil also metes out punishment/hardships. The only One who can turns things around is God. And should should not arrogate unto yourself the function of God by insinuating that you (a mere mortal) is more merciful than God. If you are pissed off at the last sentence, then you've just proved my point.

Crime and punishment philosophy is all over the bible: Moses did not get to the promised land as his punishment for crime/sin, Aaron was punished for the golden calf...

All these still makes him a merciful God. What about other mercies that He shows us even when we have not merited them?

In a Christian's point of view, man is a sinner. So even though God loves us, he must be fair as well. Thus not matter how much he loves us, there will come a day when we receive judgment, and the only way to receive salvation is to believe in Christ, only then can we saved from hell.
Yes, I should think thats pretty harsh. I wouldn't do that.

My friend
okay it a good question but has a lot of correct answers
god gave us evey means to live as a terrific race to protect each other to protect our planet and its animals
but the problem
which dont have to be a problem is freedom of choice he / she gave us choice
what are you as a terrific person with gifts your just learning about going to do with your freedom of choice
god created the heaven and the earth and the stars ive yet to discover where it says he created hell
but I do know your choices make the difference
a very good question

Why do you compare yourself with God to begin with?
His word says He is merciful AND just.
Are the things people do always mistakes? Or are they often deliberate acts of disobedience?
Our tainted view of right verses wrong is often the downfall of many people in our society.
Everyone makes choices in life. The choice to live a life of kindness is good. But it wont make anyone better than God.

Even if your claim to be more merciful than God is taken on it's face value,it still doesn't make you a God.Further,it doesn't make the statement invalid.Like if you prove that you are a donkey, it doesn't brand the whole tribe of them as 'non donkeys' or as false.Learn ABC of Logic and come back again or you shall continue to make a mockery of yourself.

This is a little hypocritical of me, in light of some of the answers I've written tonight, but I've gotta say:

This isn't helping or accomplishing anything.

You can't use little logic tricks like that to score points against Christians. They won't recognize that you're using their tactics against them because they can't acknowledge that this is what they do, rationalizing a couple of shreds of wisdom into an unsupportable absolute statement. Even the irony would be lost on them. Try another approach, and make sure you have a goal in mind.

God didn't create hell for humans, he created it to put Satan and his angels their, Satan is the father of Sin all who follow him will be their, so everyone human or angel that follows Satan will go to hell. that is all i need to say. God in no way wants to send you to hell, Lets say a 17 year old commits murder purposely, the judge cares about the kid but he knows that justice must be layed out. If God did not sentence you justly for your actions he would not be just, but as someone pays your bail, Jesus came to pay your bill so you wont go to jail. and thats untrue put yourself in Gods position all your creation no longer acknowledges you and they turn to other things youd be jealous, but God is not Angry he is sad. it is the equalivent of a Son doing something to disspoint a father. or a wife cheating on a husband.

have you ever sent plagues and floods and raging fires?
no.
but...then again, its all relative isn't it?
if a rich man gives a ruby its nothing
if a poor woman gives her last coin, its everything.
so, you may not have created any alternate worlds of eternal punishment lately
but i bet you've been cruel to those you loved
or pretended not to see a begger
or snubbed someone in a bar
so perhaps you're not as merciful as you think.

Ok, first off, God created hell for the devil and all it's angels. Secondly, God does not send anybody to hell. People choose to go there themselves. It makes sense if you think about it.
