I always tell my mum this about our cat, and she told me that she does drink water but we just don't see her do it! Wether she gets it from a puddle/her bowl/pond she must definately be getting a sunstantial amount otherwise she probably wouldnt be alive!

Your cat must be getting water from somewhere otherwise it would not survive more than three days. Firstly it may be drinking when you are not looking but doesn't drink enough for you to notice it is missing. I have two cats and I change their water daily and it always looked like they had not had any water, even though I used to see them drink. They used to also drink from puddles or any other water like water from a bucket that was left outside after it rained. Also wet food does have some moisture content too.

Cats tend to get most, if not all, of the moisture they need from their food (unless it's dried, of course). They might have an occasional lap at a puddle or something when out. Keep providing it but don't worry if it never seems to drink. Don't give it milk, by the way, cows' milk is bad for cats' digestive systems.

As said, cats get most of their water from food, but occasionally will drink water..
Be aware cats are lactose intollerant, and will most likely throw up if given normal cows milk... you can buy special milk for cats, but in all fairness, just provide a bowl of clean water.

Hi.
We have three cats and whenever we leave them a bowl of water it goes untouched.
Cats find water themselves. From ponds, puddles or buckets usually.
Even though the water may look dirty, cats lap up tiny amounts of it with their tongues so don't get any of the dirt as, for example, a dog would.

If your feeding them dry food (ie biscuit mix) that can often leave them firsty as opposed to the tinned/sachet food available.

Your cat would be finding water elsewhere. Try using a stoneware (porcelain, pottery, etc.) type bowl and see if that makes a difference. My cat also prefers running water to still water. They sure do have minds of their own!

PS: My cat will be 17yo in December, so being fussy about water generally doesn't kill them. Just keep the toilet LID down! :-O

If you are feeding your cat tinned food then the majority of their water requirements will be sated by that. DON'T give your cat cow milk though, as cats (particularly kittens) lack the enzyme required to break it down potentially resulting in gas, diarrhoea and an upset tummy 8( If you want to give your cat milk then make sure it's "cat milk" which is much kinder to the gut

Cat food usually has enough water contained within it to meet a cat's needs, however you should always have water available for your cat to drink should it need to.

My cat doesn't drink that much water either. But believe me they do drink water, but very little. As long as your cat seems healthy and not lethargic, don't worry./
