Do you know a family member that has the family bible? Mine has some information about my family tree. And since you need it so fast it may be quickest resource other then paying for a subscription to Ancestry.com to look up info. Sometimes Ancestry has a 30 day trial of their site but you still have to give credit card info. Then go through hassle of calling them to cancel it. My family Bible at least got me started in right direction.

By Monday, it's absolutely impossible. The best you can hope for is to ask older family members (parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles) about your family and make a quick chart of who goes where. It's not likely to be especially reliable when dealing with human memory rather than proper first-hand sources like birth marriage and death certificates, but it's the best you can really hope for. Someone in your family might already be working on your tree - if they are, then great. Most of my paternal and maternal family know this is my hobby so if any of my cousins had a school project like this they'd probably come to me and get all the information given them on a plate. Maybe you will get lucky like this. Anyhow, if you can't go on Genes Reunited, why not? It's your best hope of a quick match-up with someone. Of course, whether they will reply to your pleas for help in time for Monday is another question entirely, but that goes for trying to contact your family as well and picking their brains. You've got no time at all, so get off your computer and get on the phone to Great Aunt Ethel!!

I started a family tree and got back as far as 1700's all from asking My Great Aunt Ethel. I think I had 20-something names before i talked to her about it, and just over 100 after.

Asking Older Family Members will help especially if you have/had a family that all live relatively close together.

Well in such a short space of time you will have to rely on family members, specially the older ones, to get something down on paper.... Various search sites will need longer, or can be quite expensive... A lot of the same you can do yourself, given time, by studying births and death and marriage records back to the early 1800's. But you wont be able to go to that sort of detail by Monday...

All the people in the world working together could not have it done by Monday...but perhaps you can get a good start. Obtain information from your parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and go from there. There are so many places, but genealogy is very time intensive.
The biggest expense will be TIME; I have spent hundreds of hours and have so much left to compile.
Remember, no matter where you obtain the information, there are mistakes (yes, I include "official" documents, such as birth certificates, marriage licenses, death certificates, whatever). My maternal grandmother's tombstone doesn't even have her name correct!
Anyhew, as to searching, try these:
Free sites: there are several to choose from. Start with:
http://www.searchforancestors.com/...

http://www.censusrecords.net/?o_xid=2739...

http://www.usgenweb.com/

http://www.census.gov/

http://www.rootsweb.com/

http://www.ukgenweb.com/

http://www.archives.gov/

http://www.familysearch.org/

http://www.accessgenealogy.com/...

http://www.cyndislist.com/

Assuming they emigrated from Europe, start with Ellis Island and the Battery Conservancy sites:
http://www.ellisisland.org
http://www.castlegarden.org
For those with native American ancestry, try:
http://www.tribalpages.com/

Meaning of names:
http://www.winslowtree.com/surname-meani...

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/f...

Finding live people:
Two good places I use are www.zabasearch.com and www.peoplefinder.com

Don't forget, use your local library. Ours (a small one, yet) has www.ancestry.com and www.heritagequest.com, as well as periodicals, books and guidance from an experienced genealogist.

Keep good notes on where you find what: sources are very important.

Good luck!

If it's for high school, I doubt they want you to do that much research, they probably just want you to ak your parents about who to put on.

I've started a fmily tree, I've not got back very far (only to about my great grandmas and grandads, but that's it) but there are lots or people who sprout off them, so I've ended up with about 30 people on my Dad's side, and 30 people on my Mum's side, I hope to delve deeper into the past, but I can;t find any of my anscestors on the websites that documents births, marriages, careers, etc.

Good Luck ;)

Yes, ask as many of your family members as possible for the names of their ancestors and locations.
The 1881 Census is free here which might help to go back a bit further:
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=census/search_census.asp
If you have to do it quickly for a school project just write out all the names and information you know, and put it on the basic tree structure.

Ask your relations!!!! I suspect that if you need it by Monday you will not be needing to trace back hundreds of years. You should be able to get back a fair way just from family recollections. Old aunts are best sources. Get on the phone! If you have no relations, accept my apologies!

My wife and myself have been on Ancestry.com for six months now.
We have 200 ancestors and its addictive.
Every time you find a relative you find some children you then keep going.
All you can hope for is to find the ancestors your living relatives can tell you about.
We find Ancestry the best site we have tried, its amazing the information they have but it takes much longer than you have between now and Monday.
When you have time its free for a month but if you want their full service its £9.95 a month or £80 a year.
