If that were true, then supporters of gay marriage on this forum wouldn't be up in arms about how Christians constantly quote Leviticus.

EDIT:
And by that I mean people who regularly post on this forum, who are supporters of gay marriage; not people who believe that gay marriages should be performed ON this forum.

For the record... I'm transcribing the whole Bible by hand right now, and I'm about halfway through Hosea.

Actually, I've read every book of the thing in whole or in part. Can you say the same? How can you reconcile the dirt-scratching mud-hut primitivism of Leviticus with the enlightenment of a free society? And don't get me STARTED on the fictions of the "four gospels." If you don't know that those were actually written more than a hundred years after Jesus supposedly lived, you have NO room to talk about Biblical literacy.

---

Heh. That was an amusing coincidence. As it turns out, I'm not exactly a supporter of gay "marriage." I think civil domestic partnerships of whatever combination of genders should be granted legal recognition by the state, and I think the religious concept of "holy matrimony" shouldn't enter into it. It's not the government's business whether your church ratifies your relationship, just pay your fee with the county and recite whatever hocus pocus you need to on your own time and dime.

I not only agree with you, but, if I may, add a little to it:

Don't you love how people will take a verse and recite it continually and come across like a Biblical expert? The Bible is a big book, and should be read cover-to-cover, not just Genesis and Revelations.

Now I'm not saying that if a person reads it cover-to-cover that makes him/her a Biblical expert, I have read it over and over, and I'm certainly not one, but those who only read Genesis and Revelations are missing out on some incredible reading. It's really interesting. And I'm talking a Bible in our own language, not the King James version. And so many times when people recite a verse, they are missing the big picture , which can only come into focus by reading all of the Bible.

If I sounded preachy, please forgive me, I was really agreeing with you.

Look - I know your frustrations - but; none can come to the Son unless the Father calls them. If they were called they would not be frightened off by reading Genesis and Revelations - that would create a spark to read the rest ... AND IF THEY ARE REALLY BEING CALLED OUT BY OUR CREATOR: THEY WILL BEGIN TO LIVE BY THE EVERY WORD WRITTEN IN THAT BOOK ... no lie.

One of the prophets also wrote - that if you answer a matter before it is fully exposed (or spoken - jumping to conclusions and cutting one off with such answer before it is fully manifested) - that person is a fool.

Hope this helped.

Peace;

No I don't love it.
And I think when asking your question you forgot to take into account ALL the other people who read the Bible and read it in it's entirety. I've read it, including Genesis and Revelations and I have not given up on God.
Exactly how many is lots?

Everybody knows that the middle bits of books are just boring plot and character development. Just cut to the chase - the world god created from glue and spit and will be burned in hate and fire. The end.

I doubt "lots" of people really have just read genesis and revelations and "gave up on god". If "lots" have made this comment to you - it's to point out how utterly repulsive your religion is (or how utterly mind numbing your religous book is)

They, in my opinion, seem to be like fishermen in shallow waters, without any thirst for the truth - wishy washy people who just do namesake reading...!

When you go to the sea shore, you can take home sand with you, go a bit more deeper, and you can take salt water with you, still deeper, you can take home some fish along, but if you go to the deepest, you will get precious pearls.

These people give up on God because they read the Bible just to get sand or shells, not pearls...!

That is where you are wrong. Most of them read whatever their pastor or their priest tell them to read, or flip to a page in the morning and claim this page is god's command for them to read.
