Say a guy aged 27 talks about babies on the 2nd date and asks if you want to have them one day. Is this general conversation or deception? This guy is very bright.

Men are not a homogenized group that can all be lumped into a bowl, stirred and then expected to all behave the same. One man might mention it because he doesn't want to waste time with anyone who is not after the same things. He may feel ready to settle down and looking for a wife.

Another may be some weirdo, looking for an instant ticket into the sack and thinks that mentioning commitment will get him there. But to base that assumption on this one question doesn't make much sense. There must be other things that could help you to decide what his motives may be...aren't there?

I certainly do think that this question, as part of a simple discussion of future life goals, might be something that a very honest and decent man might bring up, wondering whether you are one to settle down or not. And it's very simple to find out - don't let him talk you into bed. Wait it out and you should know his intentions soon enough, If he is after only "one thing" he likely won't wait around long to get it.

How about the mind of the person being spoken to? Does she have a clear conscience? Is she herself into deception that she is paranoid about being deceived?

It is much simpler to take a man's word at it's face value. Men are usually straight forward and do not imply ar insinuate the way women do.

Frankly I think a guy will do or say almost anything to get a woman into bed.

Whether it is relevant in your case, hard to say because I wouldn't have to bring it up if that was my intent. I have found in my own experience if a woman won't go to bed with me by the second date she won't ever. Of course my sample size may be too small to be relevant but it's all I know.

Yes, that's a common ploy. Most men who are serious about having children would spend much more time assessing whether or not you are the kind of woman that they would want to bring their children into the world.

When a man says something like that on date 2, he knows that inside the female brain the bonding process starts i.e. "Wow, he must see a future with us". Before she knows it, she's shed her clothes, he's having fun and then a few weeks later, he's off to another victim, where the whole game starts again.

I always asked about babies on the FIRST date (I wanted to make sure the woman didn't want any). If she said "yes" it was a showstopper and I moved on. He may also be wondering what happens if you accidentally get pregnant. What will your "choice" then be?

Bet you a nickle he doesn't want any right now, and he's testing you.

Well its something that alot of men do... the whole committment thing to get women in bed. But just talking about if you want children some day... isin't all that bad. He could just be trying to get to know you and understand your goals, personal preferences and see what you want out of life. Take for instance... if he doesn't want children... it would be pretty pointless for him to continue seeing you when you really want children.

Any guy who talks about children on a second date should be watched out for, it's either that he's playing you to try get you into bed, or he's a weirdo who's planning to propose on date three.

That seems like an odd question to ask on a second date. I would be leery of any guy wanting to get that personal that quickly but that's JMO.
