I went to a community supper tonight. A lady and I had a disagreement about 5 years ago regarding something stupid...the use of the community room. Nothing major. I sat near her tonight and paid her a nice compliment and she brought up the disagreement we had 5 years ago and indicated she didn't wish to speak to me. I was embarrased and humiliated but more so hurt. I had forgiven her for what she said to me that special night and I had hoped she had forgiven me for the remark I made about her brother that same night 5 years ago. It was all so petty. I mean the disagreement we had. But I was hurt when I was trying to be neighborly and sociable and she acted "mean". She is in her 90's but that is no excuse for being rude. She isn't not senile in any way. The remark I made about her brother was not that bad but she made a big deal out of it. So I am wondering how Jesus went through life not getting hurt when people were insulting him.

ps the night of the evening when words were exchanged, it was clear I was much younger and her brother came over and hit me with his cane! And left a bruise. they were mad that I was in the community room where all are welcome and they were playing bingo and they didn't want any 'younins' in the room even though I was there acting very lady like minding my own business and it was open to all. that is what started it all. i said that her brother did not live there but was up there and yet I did live there and was being kicked out of the public social room and that was not fare. And he hit me with his cane on my arm! That was plain wrong but i forgave him and never even brought it up tonight when she said what she said to me.

Jesus was 'the man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief' so I don't think you can definitively say that His feelings were never hurt. I do think, though, that as we grow in spiritual maturity, we take things much less personally (and I *so* do not mean that you are not spiritually mature by this, I'm just stating a pattern I've seen) because we grow more secure in who we are in Christ. Our identity in Christ becomes our anchor and we realize that what people do when they hurt our feelings often isn't about us but rather that the person doing the hurting is hurting on the inside themselves and lashing out in pain.

That said, I'm very sorry about what happened. She really needs to forgive you, more for herself than for you, even, as it is eating her up inside. Unforgiveness does that, and it draws sin like flies to poop. I'm proud of *you* for forgiving her, and I'm so, so sorry she embarrassed you.

Edit to add: my feelings *often* get hurt -- so I am not at all saying that I am somehow better or more mature than you. May it never be that I would say that, dear sister!

Actually Jesus did get hurt when people mistreated him
but he was strong enough to forgive and put the past behind
and move along. You did a good thing forgiving the lady and leaving the past in the past. Some people are just not as strong as you and cannot move along in life as well as you did.
So they keep the bad things in their minds and harbor hatred in their hearts. But don't worry stay away from negative people like that and enjoy your life without them.
:)

Jesus is always forgiving, on the other hand we are only human and he understands that, he also acknowledges that you did the right thing and were the more mature person I suppose. I can only say that in this case you may have to just accept it because she is old and is set in her ways. She will surely be thinking of you when her time comes.

I am sure that Jesus got his feelings hurt many times. He was, after all, a human being with human feelings. The Bible stories about Jesus don't say everything about him.

As to your difficulty with Mrs. "Crabby", just let it go. It's not worth stewing over. She's made it clear that she's not interested in speaking to you, so steer clear of her.

Jesus first of all is God. Even if he assumed our human nature he kept silent when he was taunted, insulted, etc. because he loved us so much and he wants to give us an example of humility, patience, forgiveness, etc. He loved us so much that he offered his life for us. He embraced his cross of humiliation even up to death on the cross.

Who really cares? If he's the son of god he already knew what was going too happen to him. It wasn't like God gave him a choice about dying. So, he probably just does what most people do if someone is insulting and that is by ignoring them or calling them out on it.

I don't need Jesus to tell you that some things are better left alone and if others rather not hear what you have to say then that's their freedom... let it be

There's no winner & loser here... she'll think back on what you said and realize what you meant in good time... And if she doesn't... you atleast know that you tried
