In my last question (see link below) most of the people that answered stated that sending a child to Sunday School and taking them to Church is child abuse. That is news to me, so learning that God loves you when you are a child is child abuse, wow you learn something new everyday (sarcastic)

Well if you make your child clean their teeth and they don't want to, is that child abuse?

Making them clean up their room even when they say no, is that child abuse?

Telling them not to play in the rain or mud, is that child abuse?

I always thought raising your child the way you were raised, being taught right from wrong is parenting not child abuse

So please tell me what is the right way, if I am wrong about taking my girls to Church so they can learn how much God loves them, tell me what is the right way?

People that claim kids should have a choice when it comes to sunday school crack me up.
I guess we should just give all 10 year olds freedom to choose anything they want because they always know whats best for them.

Give me a break people. You people that act like Sunday School is brainwashing or shouldnt be forced better allow your kids to go to Sunday School if they want and never try to discourage religion because after all, it is their choice and they should be allowed to choose at age 6 or 8 exactly what they are going to believe in.

Some of you atheists act like you give any more choice growing up than christians. How many of you are teaching against the concept of church? Isnt that doing to your kids exactly what you tell christians not to do? Arent you just indocrinating them to your beliefs?

Their reasoning is that we are indoctrinating our kids and not letting them make up their own minds.

How is it different to not sending them? Atheists indoctrinate their own kids by not sending them and arguing against any religious beliefs. It's a parenting decision.

I think our kids get enough 'worldly' influence every day that they can use to make their own minds up.

How about the fact that kids today only hear the evolution theory (which by the way, although a theory still, is taught as fact!)? The kids growing up in a Christian home at least get to hear a different version - Creation. Perhaps the rest of the kids are being 'abused' by not being allowed to hear and learn about the creation theory.

Well, I went to a Lutheran school for a few years and I survived. I suppose it's not an entirely wasteful thing; if they're wise enough to grow up and read the bible and realize what an awful God you have, they'll have a good, working, inside knowledge of the institution of the Church to use as ammunition.

Edit: *grimace* Or, I suppose, in a worst case scenario they could come out brainwashed for life like becomeblackbelt. How many different people does God claim to hate in the bible? I forget off the top of my head...

I'm not a Christian, but I don't see anything wrong with taking your child to Sunday School and Church. You teach them things from your perspective, English and US history for example. In other countries people are doing the same thing. Its only when we grow up that hate makes us fight over whose upbringing and belief structure is right.

As a law-abiding, friendly, peaceful and positive non-Christian, my only request to you...
Please be careful not to teach them to hate me or my children because they believe differently. I'm not saying that you do, but I think a lot of the animosity you find from non-believers stems from their previous experiences where people inadvertently taught hate while trying to teach love.

It doesn't matter, really, what other people think. Or if the child scoffs.

By the law of the land, a child needs to go to school (or be homeschooled) or there are consequences.
By the law of God, a child needs to be educated about his Word or there are consequences.

My children don't like going to meetings. They're getting older and I'm getting lazier so I don't always make them. But they do have to attend our family Bible study.
God holds parents accountable for teaching their children about Him. I don't always try like I should.... and I'm determined to get better.

People without an understanding of the Bible just don't understand how important it is. I explain it to those who care to know and ignore the rest.

The Lord Himself holds all parents accountable for the Spiritual upbringing of the Children. Parents who use a lame excuse such as "let the child decide for himself" are nothing more than a cop out and are refusing their responsibilities toward the Lord and their children.

what's your factor? that is hardly surprising that some atheists set up their very own mock 'church' in keeping with the selection and impact of Christian church homes. Atheism potential 'without theism', that is not via definition organised in any way - that is not a gadget of ideals, techniques or rituals.

Choosing a religion is just a big a thing as choosing which career path to take or whether or not you want to get married and start a family. Having your religion chosen for you before you are even born isn't the right way. Most people stick with the religion their families brainwashed them with since birth. Usually religion is a life long committment and if one is to committ to something like that, shouldn't it be their choice?

That is like saying that my parents abused me by passing down their cultural traditions, after all I was born in America, so being that I was born American maybe they were abusing me by teaching me their language, their customs, their cooking and their dances. STOP BEING RIDICULOUS. You unbelievers should be grateful we raise up our children with a moral compass. Because of parents like us there are less inmates, there are less cases of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases, less abortions, less divorce and less drug addiction. If children really are a product of what their parents teach them then Christian parents have helped make this a far more pleasant society.

It can be clearly argued that NOT teaching them about God and their salvation is child abuse. Their souls are in jeopardy if you don't. But you don't teach them hard things. You teach according to their growth. The Catholic church established the education system itself, so I don't think those people have a foot to stand on.
