Bipolar is a medical terminology for people that are born with it gentically. It is a disorder of the brain that causes eratic mood swings. It cannot be controlled. You go from being happy to a deep depression within seconds. Yes there are medications that control the disorder yet the body will become immune to the drug after a certain period of time.
Biploar disorder is only the beginning of the chain reaction. From there you go to ADD and then to OCD. The serious person with this disorder cannot stop their emotions. I have worked and studied Bi-polar people for years. I truly feel their pain to give up at times.

It used to be called "manic-depressive." The manic episodes are usually high states of joy, fun-loving behavior which people are willing to accept. They are followed by low, depressed states of emotion which causes people to wonder what is wrong with you. In the past, it was the manic behavior which was treated, usually with Lithium. It tended to reduce those "happy" moods, and then the swing to the depressed moods weren't so bad nor so deeply felt. If you have been diagnosed bipolar, make sure you have a good doctor who will carefully monitor your reactions to the meds he/she prescribes. Too much is just as bad as too little, and once a proper dosage is determined, don't stop taking it because you feel better: It's a control, not a cure. Good luck.

Pipolar disorder, in a nutshell, it is very large mood swings. from REALLY HAPPY to REALLY SAD in a short period of time. There are various reasons for the wide spectrum of moodswings.

someone can be mildly bipolar, or extremely bipolar. Though it isnt something to be taken lightly. unless someone jokingly uses the word out of context. Most use medications to treat the impbalances of moods, though some believe, if one gets to the bottom of the fear the problem can be solved without medication.
here is a more serious long winded definition here:

Bipolar is the new term for people who suffer from manic depression, It is characterized by feelings of intense highs where the person feels like they are invincible to massive lows where suicidal tendencies and massive depressions are the norm. Can be treated with medication(usually a lithium based drug) but is not curable. Many people lead normal lives on medication and many others fluctuate between the two. hope this helps.

Bipolar disorder is a psychiatric condition defined as recurrent episodes of significant disturbance in mood. These disturbances can occur on a spectrum that ranges from debilitating depression to unbridled mania. Individuals suffering from bipolar disorder typically experience fluid states of mania, hypomania or what is referred to as a mixed state in conjunction with depressive episodes. These clinical states typically alternate with a normal range of mood. The disorder has been subdivided into bipolar I, bipolar II and cyclothymia, with both bipolar I and bipolar II potentially presenting with rapid cycling.

I think bipolar means that a person has bipolar disorder. It has to do with uncontrolled severe mood swings a person has. I think people take lithium (not sure of the exact drug) to control the mood swings.

I would research it on webmd.com if i were you or look it up on wikipedia

It is the current name for manic-depressive. Manic means you are very hyper, excited, energetic. You may not sleep for day at a time. You can be happy, angry, or out of control.

Depressive means you are down, depressed, lack energy, might have a hard time getting out of bed.

Bipolar/manic-depressive people swing from one extreme to the other.
