When I left my tray on the table at a food court, a friend of a fellow employee took it upon himself to remove my tray and say to me " don't you consider other people who may want to sit there? My answer was that they hire people to do that job and if you do it then they might be laid off. As in a restaurant, the "bus boy" removes the dishes. Do you remove your dirty dishes in a restaurant ? No...........then why do it here? I'm sure in a restaurant other people are waiting to be seated. So my question is .....why behave differently in a food court than you would in a restaurant.

A food court is a collection of take-away food outlets and the tables are a courtesy provided to you by the management of the shopping centre for you to sit down and enjoy your meal. Table service is not expected nor provided. Centre Management pays for people to clear up tables and wipe them down, but it's only common courtesy to take your own rubbish to the bin.

In a restaurant, you pay for the privilege of being waited upon.

u need 2 have more consideration for other people. they also put trash cans in food court for trash to go in and the trays to go on top of. there are a lot of tables in a food court for someone to be running around clearing off every 5 minutes, n also consider how busy the mall is at the time.. dont u get frustrated when u cant find a table to sit at becuz they're either dirty or people are sitting at them? they wont get fired becuz u cleared the table off, but they might get fired if they cant clean the tables off to make due with the crowd. just pointing all that out.. kind of obvious dontcha think

Actually, they hire a busboy or two to wipe the tables off with a cleaning solution, not to throw out other people's garbage and put the trays away.
It's no different from a McDonalds or Burger King. If you sit down and eat in the food court, clean your area up, throw all your garbage out and leave. Don't show up, trash the table and bail out. Seems kind of obvious.
Everywhere I eat, whether it's at a fast food restaurant, a restaurant with waiters, or if I'm eating in someone's home, I still wipe my area down with a napkin and stack up my plates, or throw out my trash and put the tray back. The employees always appreciate it.

This actually depends where you are. Here, in the U.S. absolutely. In Europe that really depends more than anything. Some places in France for example dislike it when you clear the table yourself, rather, they include a cover charge with your purchase at the food court (i.e. a tip) much like in restaurants. In America, since there is no tip, don't expect anyone to clean up after you. Think of it not as a restaurant, but as a picnic bench at a park: somewhere you eat where it is RESPECTFUL to clean up.

I always do, and I push my chair in to boot. At a restaurant, bus boys are hired specifically to bus tables, and that's all they do. In a food court, the same people who clear/wipe tables also have to clean the restrooms, sweep and mop the floors throughout the mall, clean up spills in department stores, etc., and can't always get around to wiping off the tables after every customer.

Yes
Because a food court has more than one establishment that sellls food. Many don't have a bus type person to remove the things from the table. So it is helpful if you do pick up after yourself so that you don't inconvenience someone else. It only takes a moment. Remember Do unto others as you WOULD HAVE THEM to do unto you.
Restaurants have bus people to pick up after you. And also to seat you. So don't treat them the same

because in a restaurant you are being served your food... at the food court they have people there to clean the floors and eventually wipe down the tables but they don't have designated people who just stand around and wait to 'clear' tables like in a restaurant...
a restaurant and a food court are two completely different places

Consider that if people do not clean their own tables in food courts, and they hire people to bus the tables, the price of the food will increase yet again. It is common courtesy to clean up after yourself.

Sorry...you're wrong. They don't hire people in food courts to clean up after people who are too lazy to take their trays to the trash cans. As in a fast food restaurant, you clean up after yourself. If you can't do that, stay home.
