After receiving several deferments as a student during the Vietnam War, Giuliani applied for an occupational deferment as a law clerk, but his application was rejected. Giuliani appealed the decision, and asked the federal judge he was clerking for to petition the draft board for him.

During his 1993 mayoral campaign, Giuliani's own paid consultants reported the following as part of a "vulnerability study":

"Giuliani received special treatment from a friendly federal judge to avoid military service during the Vietnam war, when thousands of less fortunate people were dying. Then, as a member of the Justice Department, he hypocritically prosecuted draft dodgers."

Mitt Romney received 3 years of deferments for his academic studies. Then he received another 2 1/2 years of controversial deferments for being a "missionary" for the Mormon church. Where was Romney (the "conservative") a so-called missionary?

Out of all places, France. The same country that the "real" neo-conservatives hate so much, they renamed French Fries to "Freedom Fries" and French Toast to "Liberty Toast."

"I really don't recall thinking about political positions when I was knocking at the door in France" as a missionary, Romney said. "I was supportive of my country. I longed in many respects to actually be in Vietnam and be representing our country there and in some ways it was frustrating not to feel like I was there as part of the troops that were fighting in Vietnam."

The REAL story is that Romney's church got him out of the draft so he could take a nice vacation in Paris. They must have needed Mormon missionaires in France as much as they needed George W. Bush's air support against the Viet Cong in Texas. Conveniently, "no records are available from the period that would show how Romney's deferment was handled."

Yes, it does not matter that a previous president was notified of his draft call twice, and did not report for duty.
He lied to the commander of the ROTC unit at the University of Arkansas to get an after the notice exemption, while he was smoking, but not inhaling dope in Europe, but that did not prevent him from being the commander in chief of all military services.
When the press criticized Quayle and Bush for being in the National Guard, it did not bother me, even though I could not get in and served in the Marine Corps, at least they did not run off to Canada, or hide in England.
So I do not hold it against people who got deferments, even if they were rich or privileged it doesn't matter to me anymore.

the bigger picture with Romney, is he and the Mormon church want to rule the world. Did you know the founder and prophet of the the Mormon church, Joseph Smith, ran for president of the U.S? Be very very careful!

Fear not; Democrats settled this issue when they said that Clinton's status as a draft dodger was not relevant to his ability to serve.

Has something changed?
