Risperdal (risperidone) is an anti-psychotic medication. It is prescribed when the patient has schizophrenia paranoia, Bi-polar or other psychosis when he/she complains of having had hallucinations ("hearing" voices, "seeing" or "feeling" things). It helps but does not eliminate the hallucinations in my experience. It is a potent dopamine blocker and is used sometimes to treat other mental disorders.

Information on the drug may be obtained by typing in "risperdal" into Yahoo! web search. A number of informative links comes up. Wikipedia has a good short summary

I think a doctor prescribing it "one time" means he believes it will help to relieve reported hallucinations or other symptoms such as agitation or extreme anxiety Did you report an hallucination? 40% of the general population reports having had at one time or another an hallucination but they may not be psychotic.

Good luck in your research, good metal health, peace and Love!.

Probably wants to see if your body can handle it and if it actually helps the problem. Sounds like he/she wants to hear from you before prescribing it again.
