It has nothing to do with "Big Bang Theory". It has to do with A. Einstein speculating that matter could not be created or destroyed, but could be converted into other forms, such as energy. It was a continuation of the theory of relativity, and to quote Einstein:
"It followed from the special theory of relativity that mass and energy are both but different manifestations of the same thing -- a somewhat unfamiliar conception for the average mind. Furthermore, the equation E is equal to m c-squared, in which energy is put equal to mass, multiplied by the square of the velocity of light, showed that very small amounts of mass may be converted into a very large amount of energy and vice versa. The mass and energy were in fact equivalent, according to the formula mentioned above. This was demonstrated by Cockcroft and Walton in 1932, experimentally."

Energy = Mass x the speed of light squared. Energy is neither created or destroyed, it only changes form. Thus, the energy always existed. It was either in a condensed form (before the big bang) or it was released with the bang.

The Big Bang Theory doesn't explain the origin of the bang. It explains why everything (including space itself) is expanding outward from a central point.

I'm no expert but I think physics as we know it pretty much goes out the window when you have all the matter in the universe condensed to the size of a pinhead.
