Literal thinking is a ***** isn't it. Does your head hurt?
You stated it properly... "many Christians believe" and unfortunatey they don't also "understand". EVERYTHING in the Bible or the "good book" as you state has been retranslated and taken literally by so many people that there is little sense to it EXACTLY as it is written. Many things are metaphors and many are explainations and made sense in their time but have not been correctly stated for our current day English. It takes far more faith THAN understanding of the English language to get everything out of the Bible. That is the purpose of faith and prayer.
BTW... American patriotism and Christianity have very little in common. Basis for the constitution, yes. Christianity in general...no. There is nothing cruel and unusual about God. Only the way people slaughter His words to make believe that it says something different than the truth.

I am a Christian and I whole heartedly believe that the Bible does not condemn people to an eternity of torture. Their punishment is forever, but not the experience of it. Once they are burned up that's it ... forever. Only those who make it to heaven get the gift of eternal life. Otherwise it's a relatively short death then lights out (so to speak) . . . forever. That is merciful. That is just. No more suffering or pain. No more sin. It is all done away with forever.

Eternal Hell-fire is just because God Almighty says so in all Divine Revelations of God.
The laws that define 'cruel and unusual punishment' to the capital punishment for killers are made by the fools who want to feed the killers for life and burden the society with taxes. They spend nearly $40,000 a year on each such killer whom they keep in prison for life.
God All mighty made Oxygen, Water, Oceans, Day, Night, Mountains, animals, birds, insects. dist on earth full of life supporting chemicals, plants that give oxygen's in day and Carbon Di-oxide in night, plants that turn sun light into sugar found in every things that is grown on earth.
If God reduces one out of all I mentioned above, life on this planet would be impossible to continue. It is perfect system.
How can be Law Makers who make such foolish laws can be wiser than the God Almighty?

Unfortunately, you have it exactly backwards in this and your other posts about the Christian's impact on the planet.
God gave a physically flawless man a perfect world to dwell in (Eden.) Man (Adam) was in perfect fellowship with God (they walked together in the garden.)
Man had one rule... just one.. to follow. Do not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. This was the only tree of the (perhaps) tens of thousands in the garden from which fruit was permitted. Adam was warned that, to disobey the one rule about this one tree would lead to death.
Adam disobeyed.
Adam deserved to die.
He was warned.
He had no reason to eat of the tree.
He knew there was a penalty.
We (all sons and daughters of Adam) carry this same rebellious, disobedient attitude towards the commandments of God in our hearts. Given the same circumstances, we would also fail because we have a "sinful nature" we inherit from Adam.
We would without a doubt all disobey.
We all therefore deserve to die.
But God, in His LOVE (not His cruelty) sends a new man. A perfect man; one without a sin nature. How can this be? Because this man (Jesus) is God himself who takes on the form of man, the form of Adam. He is a "new Adam." But being God, he lacks the sinful nature. Therefore, He is able to die a death, but not for His sins (He doesn't have any.) Instead, He volunteers to die for YOUR sins so that YOU don't have to die.
Why does He do this?
Because He knows you are a sinner.
Because He knows there is no other way (Jesus prayed, "Father, if there be any other way, let this cup pass from me.")
So you, a sinner in a hopeless situation NEED a Savior.
Jesus IS your savior.
Why does He die to save you?
Because of His great love for you.
So contrary to the way you characterize Jesus, His death is the greatest act of charity of all time: He died (when He didn't have to) so that people who DO deserve to die (i.e., go to hell) can, instead, have forgiveness of their sins and eternal life (i.e., heaven.)
Isn't God loving? Isn't He magnificent? Isn't He worthy of all our praise and thanksgiving?
Won't you accept His free gift of salvation this very night? You obviously need it, and without it, you, by YOUR decision (not His) will seal your own fate. That negates the possibility that God's cruelty sends you to hell; instead, your rebellion and disobedience (now on full display by rejecting Christ) is the reason you are hell-bound.
The Good News? It's not too late! Accept Jesus tonight and find new life in Him!

That is a reason why I am an atheist. I have always held my Constitutional Rights very dear. If such a being were to exist i would never bow to it because it does not respect my rights. In a sense it is anti-american. it is creul and unusual and if such a being were real i would create a second rebellion.

Is it symbolic language for
eternal separation of a conscious spirit.
What is at stake.
Jesus talks about Hell more than any thing else.
He says avoid it.
What does the pot say to the potter?
I think I see your point .
You will have a chance to voice your opinion.
Good luck.

Did you say poor devil, do you not know that there would be no hell if it was not for the poor devil. Hell was created for the poor devil and his poor little angels. But since you are so supportive of the poor devil and I am sure he is pleased with you supporting him, remember this when you realize that he is the one who wants you to be tortured with him, not God. So you keep loving your father and I'll keep loving mine.

that is quite irrelevant simply because God is almighty, eternal, and the Supreme Being. So basically, He could do whatever He wants just because He's GOD. But He gives us a way out of eternal damnation by believe in Him. It's a simple tradeoff, really.
And America came thousands of years after God's laws.... And don't you think the founding fathers had their mistakes, too. Every human does, and in that case, its quite pointless to even compare the two.

DO YOU BELIEVE IN A HELL OF TORTURE, WHY?
Acts 2:27-35;
King David is as well until the resurrection for the new earth. 2Pet.3:13;
Rev.20:1-6.12.13;
Acts 2:27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. 2:28 Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance. 2:29 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. 2:30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; 2:31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. 2:32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. 2:33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. 2:34 For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, 2:35 Until I make thy foes thy footstool.
They are all resurrected out of death as Jesus was back to Abel.
1cor,15:22-28;
As in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
John 5:26-29; Acts 24:15; Dan.12:2; Isa.26:19; Psm.104:29,30; Eze.37:12-14;
ALL ARE RESURRECTED TO SEE JESUS. Heb.9:27; 2Cor.5:10;
