You know what I mean.....whatever spiritual path you happen to be walking...there are certain 'rules', so to speak...some things you should do...some things you must do...are there ever exceptions to these 'must' rules?

'Vast. Vast it ever will be. A rule is the measure had and used with which the path traveler of any kind proceeds. When we speak of a path -- which implies the spirito-material worlds generally -- we speak of that which we key and write or encode consciously and unconsciously into the very substrate made of our unique experience, for which we innately come to know the specific and general responsibilities and place and conditions; these, to have those lessons that one knows he or she needs to move onward while holding to and abiding and saluting that medium in which one travels.

As the laws change, so are equally the adjustments needing made at once. A path indicates a signature, keyed with the means by which we arrive at a given point, after which reaching the path traveled can now be discarded, but before which is a vacuum of time-space within which each individual has his or her experiences.

One comes to know how to proceed by one's own personal reality vacuum, which is a power that surrounds and encompasses each individual, a tailored force and energy that draws like circumstances and energies -- and equally keyed as well.

Call it a rule: first, formulated by the individual himself; and second, carried-to in accordance with full respect to the collective reality of all souls and things and experiences and conditions and surroundings; this, created to bring of certain lessons. Enter therewith the said rules and exceptions; enter, too, what one might wish to call a mastership as regards that unique vector.

Ultimately, exceptions are as integral to any path as are the norms peculiar to a consensual reality through which one moves, and is, again, comprised of everyone and everything, which exceptions and waivers are not immutable, and ever will be, else the things on which those rules are founded are themselves subject to enfold and thus collapse, which cannot be availed save for the occurrence of an equal uncontrolled action and gaggle of exceptions... 'No escaping this...

As to rules and exceptions, the mark of mastership upon any given path -- while one does walk that path and still needs to -- is the knowledge and ability to accord what must be done in a way that is karmically neutral and free of imbalance -- this is of key importance; and yet this can be and often is a daunting thing, for -- again -- each soul has its own experiences, perceptions and processes.

Reality is a peculiar thing, which is but another name for a group or society or collective of beings agreeing to agree; education is that way, a collective example, stark – which is replete with rules, irascible rules.

To summon a rule is to evoke an exception and foil. And while here in worlds of duality -- which truly is what this question addresses -- 'that' is the only case without exception till such threshold is reached that subsists above the universes and deshas of duality -- those of the karmic worlds. Thereafter exists only those rules and exceptions created by the soul itself, for by this time that soul has become more than proficient at wielding of rules and exceptions and is not encumbered with fallacies of any kind, and all memories aligned to one's experiences and dimensions are set, which Soul can well carry forward Up Above to succeed at missions that It is charged with carrying.

It is what is in your heart that counts the most. If you have a good heart and always try to do what you think is right, I don't think there are any rules, so to speak. What "must" rules do you speak of? I think the rules you speak of, have more to do with religious beliefs than anything. All "religions" are not the same, so the rules would be different for each one.

The only rule I ever really thought imortant, is the Golden Rule: "Do unto others, as you would have others do unto you." (We need to start teaching that one in school again, lol.) If EVERYONE were to follow that one simple rule, the world would be a much more peaceful place.

If they are "must" rules, then no.

Making exceptions means you've strayed from your spiritual path.

Knowing what rule you want to break and why might change the above answer, but if you just don't like rules you're not on any spiritual path.

If REAL justice is to be served then every single case is judged on it's OWN merits rather than against a "one size fits all" rule. Each set of circumstances is different and therefore there are thngs that will cause someone to be judged MUCH less harshly than others for the SAME offense.

The question is concerned with spirituality and not by religion as stated by the questioner. In religion,it is a role of life of an individual who guided us towards endless cycle of birth & death. In otherwords, the religion dicates us the practice of certain rules prescribed by its Founder. On the otherhand, Spirituality is an individual concern while religion is a social contract. Moreover,Spirituality is a dedication of mind, will, and felling of an individual to the inquery of the absolute Reality. Accordingly, spirituality does not have rules by which we have to follow on that path. Thanks for the questioner to clarify the rules in Spirituality.

always! I am exceptional. I follow only the voice of an unknown father but I do not follow as any other. My path is untrodden as a blanket of freshly falling(not fallen) snow. The steps behind me are eradicated as quickly as they are made. When I am lost in the blizzard or the night or the wilderness, I listen and he leads me. It is a perilous journey but so beautiful that I am tempted not to continue. I 'must' only because his 'will' is my own.

Yup! But the first exception is that "rules" aren't appropriate substitutes for observation and critical thought to determine appropriate response. They are usually merely ways of avoiding thought, avoiding personal responsibility, or means of others controlling you. The only "rules" I respect are ones of mutual agreement for public safety, like driving on the legal side of the road.

All rules are made to be broken. There is a pathless path that can be found, then one sees the bases for rules although by then the rules are no longer needed.

Many religions have a 'must not' rule along the lines of 'you must not murder', yet they make exceptions to that rule in war.
