depends you really need to clean the contacts off to regain connection. if that works bam there you go. and yes it can work but may not. i would suggest buying a universal remote and program it to your entertainment system if it doesn't.

Sometimes, make sure the remote is clean before the new batteries are put in.

It will still work. Just make sure you wipe as much of the corrosion out of the remote as you can with a dry towel, and also, wash your hands when you're done. Wouldn't want any chemical burns.
