Jesus was the Marco Polo of his time, pal. Just like Santa. The Inuit people of the North look distinctly different from the rest of us, but Santa (just like Jesus) was/is a white dude. Great marketing, huh?

Jesus is Jewish. But in early Christianity where it was spread in Europe the artists, who would make the paintings and such, weren't big on ethnic accuracy and would depict Jesus as a Western European (everyone is painted the same colour back then). This image would have spread with colonization and the spread of religion from Europe so that's why over time and in a lot of places he is shown as Caucasian not Middle Eastern.

Most pictures of Jesus here are caucasian, but I see a good number that are not. Like in my son's bible, Jesus is brown. I would hope/assume that most Christians think Jesus was not white.

Probably because most of those paintings were done by white artists who were influenced by earlier white artists. I have seen pictures of Jesus that show him with other racial characteristics...it does seem that people have a tendency to picture him as being like themselves. Most of them depict him as handsome (which I think he was) and many people tend to define attractiveness along racial lines.

Sure was. Jesus made it cool to be white. Since then, everybody had to be as white as Jesus. Even Michael Jackson

Wherever you go on earth, Jesus will conform (in whatever way) to the norms of that place. This is only natural.

Well when a religion is borrowed and altered by Europeans to fit THEIR taste... kinda helps make it seem all the more unrealistic to me.
