I have the typical small NYC apartment and my kitty gets restless. She likes to climb all over things and sit in high places. So I bought her a cat condo with 3 levels, however I've had it for 2 days and I can't get her to go near it.

Does anyone here have a cat condo? Did your cat like it right away or did it take some time? I read about how other's peoples cat's love it but maybe it takes some time to get use to?

I've tried putting some kitty treats on it but she only comes to get the treats and then walks away

your kitty condo has a bunch of different smells on it . your cat may be reluctent to play on it sence it smells like too many things...
the best way to get her/him to play on it is to purchase a bottle of liquid kat nip spray...

What kind is it? Is it sturdy or does it wobble? Cats can be afraid of things that do not feel sturdy.

It could just be the location. Is it in a draft or near a sunny window? You could try putting some catnip in a sock high up in the condo so she has to climb up.

Sometimes the carpeting is too fluffy and thick and cats can't get a hold of the mesh underneath which is what they really like. Sometimes it is the smell of chemicals like glue that take awhile to go away.

I would try moving it around and then playing with some toys so as she goes to grab the toy, her claws dig into the condo. That works for scratching posts so it may work for this as well. Cats can sometimes dislike new things so it may just be a matter of time.

I have two cats but don't have a condo for them. I think one of my cats would love it while I'm not so sure about the other. My parents, who live in a different state, have a condo they bought years ago. It's a nice one that looks sort of like a tree. They've offered to give it to us and we just might take them up on it the next time we're out in their area. Of the many cats they've had over the years, only one cat actually used it.

Many times, cats will begin to play with something when you least expect it. I don't have a kitty condo, but she does have a customized scratching post & I was so upset when she wanted nothig to do with it for months! Then one day, she "noticed" it & now she stops by it many times a day on her way upstairs.
I've found that if you put items in a central location, cats are much more liekly to use them. Don't hide them away or tuck them into a corner...It may be an eyesore for a while, but if you make it impossible for your cat to avoid it, eventually she'll want to use it. (a little catnip sprinkled on it might help too!)

It really depends on the cat's personality. I had a cat some time ago and I bought him one.. He really didn't know what it was for. Maybe he is scared of it. I set him on the middle level and he seemed to like it after that! Try putting some of his toys, some food or catnip up there too!

It could be that the cat is just not use to it.It's best to get one while kitty is still a kitten so she will grow up with it. Or, it could be that the condo smells of the store it was purchased from, and the cat is indecisive on how to treat it just yet.Could be any number of things, really.Let time be your best teacher, just observe and you will learn.

try rubbing some catnip on it.
Also put her up and put her gently on it.
Even if that does not work just leave it for her to see.
Even though cats are curious by nature sometimes things may seem too strange at first and it may take a while for her to begin exploring and figuring out what it is for. Remember she doesn't know what it is.

I say give it some time. Some cats are wary of new things. It may take them some time to investigate it. Keep putting the food in it (try putting it up in the higher level so he knows that they exist) and try putting some toys up there too.

My cats generally ignore such things, and expensive or fancy toys, then I find them having the best time rolling a pecan around the floor, fighting a wadded up piece of paper, etc. They seem to delight in doing anything except what you want them to.

Put some of her favorite toys inside or some catnip. She'll go in then.
