I have an eight month-old kitty, who never buries her poop. She just lets 'em rip, and leaves her business sitting on top of the litter box. Then she lightly scratches the side of the box, and walks off; leaving her stinky poo for her brother or sister to clean up (which they often do). What's her problem?

I think I have heard a slightly different version of this story before. Something about men and toilet seats. Hmmm? Maybe she's just getting even!

I adopted a cat who does this . She'll scratch away for 5 or 6 minutes at the sides of the box. I found it helped a little to remove the top of the box . But the best solution is a Litter Maid type box . But these need maintance (cleaning ) . Maybe you can leave the top off and use a spoon to help her bury the poop as she watches . Maybe she'll start switching from the walls to the litter .

As stated, cats are normally very clean and has nothing to do with litter size. There is an easy solution, change the litter more often and get a stronger litter for multiple cats.

The other solution may be a trip to the vet. if your kitty has a bladder or kidney infection, it will not touch anything in its litter box.

Try the cheap solution first, stronger litter changed more often. Because if you have to see the vet, he/she will want to see all the cats because there may be more going on than just not 'covering up poop'.

Just like all people are different, animals are too. Some cats bury it instinctively and some don't. It sounds like she never learned she had to do it herself since the other cats do it for her. Maybe try trying to catch her going and before she leaves take the little shovel and kind of bury it in front of her. If not just be thankful she's still using the liter box :)

But eight months isn't too old so I'd give her a while longer to learn what you want her to do.

Maybe the litter box is too full... Or, maybe the litter box is too small, or it is a weird shape. I have found that my male cat tends to do the same thing when he is not happy with the litter box situation. . I have a dome litter box and my cats are always scratching the side of it. I am actually looking into getting a different size box for them since the dome shape seems to be confusing them.

Hopefully her brothers and sisters will eventually teach her the right way to cover it. I also have a young one that will scratch anything but the litter and I do not believe it has anything to do with the actual type of litter.

I believe it is her lack of education. Didn't pay enough attention to her momma's instruction. She's not the exactly the brightest little furball of the bunch and lacks grace to boot.

A way to help her learn is to catch her before she leaves the litter box and show her how to properly cover it. This will takes patience, it is not a "teach her once and she'll have it down" kind of thing. You will have to go over it with her multiple times but if you do she will likely get it eventually.

My Puddy-tat does the same thing.
I think it is some "etiquette-problem" that comes from the parents (the CAT'S parents, not the 2-legs.) My male cat still has not caught onto the "correct method" to cover it. - He continually scratches to the SIDES of his litter box, as did his mother when she was also with me.
This does come in quite handy when I also use the restroom.
Whenever I do sit on The Throne and leave the seat open, my Puddy scratches on the seat to cover my mess!
He teaches me GOOD to flush afterwards.
Yes....... this should be said "WELL." - I know.

I have not any thought why your making this a great deal. If she poops and your homestead, arise and sparkling it. My mom has 4 cats and it rather is a component of puppy possession. in case you do not % your homestead to sniff once you at the instant are not homestead, purchase a reed diffuser or air freshener etc. don't be cruel and stick your cats paws in the kitty clutter! Their not college infants, they do each and every little thing out of instinct! You forcing your cat via shoving its paws in the kitty clutter will make the cat experience grimy and could circulate into their paws. they are going to then attempt to lick it off or sparkling their paws in the water bowl which will then bring about grimy water and greater of a multitude! you need to be a minimum of sparkling the clutter container 2 cases an afternoon or greater by way of fact cats can get Urinary Tract an infection. you will comprehend this while the cat does not use the liter container in any respect and the cat starts off "leaking" or "dripping" urine in each and every single place. Do your self a desire and only %. up the rattling poo everytime she gets out!

Same here. Our cat does his poop then scratches OUTSIDE the box on the floor as if there was litter there. Stupid cat.

I don't think this is a 'problem'. All cats have slightly different habits and personalities, just as we humans are all unique. I'd say she is the smartest of the bunch. Why mess with the smelly crap (excuse the pun) if someone else is willing to do it for you.
