I was involved in a hit and run and I got the ladies license plate. The police did nothing about it. She had no insurance. The police officer told me they would enter her license plate number into the system so if her plate was ran her car would be impounded and she would be arrested. I have recently found out her plate was not but into the system and the police officer lied. It says in the police report that it was entered into the system. What should I do now?

I know she didn't have insurance because I contacted her. The police also said they were too busy to deal with a hit-and-run accident.

If it was a H/R accident, how do you know she didn't have insurance?. The Crash Report will be turned over to a follow up investigator, who will then attempt to locate the owner of the vehicle. The Officer didn't lie, you were just given incorrect information. Just turn your report over to the insurance company.

Contact your insurance company and report the claim. If you have uninsured motorist coverage it should pay for your damage. The insurance company will then go after the lady for re-payment. In the mean time - you got on with life and got your car fixed.

Don't worry about if the police entered her license plate into a database or not. In general it irritates the heck out of officers when people drive around with out insurance. (After all, police officers have to pay insurance premiums on their private vehicles same as you. - it makes you made to hear about it - well it makes them mad too). Why would the officer just let her get away with endangering his friends and family (who drive those same roads too).

Don't worry about telling the officer how to do his job - just call your insurance company and let them handle it.

At first I was puzzled, but now I'm confused. Did you contact the lady? How? If you said the cops didn't run her plates thru.

Make sure you have your facts correct and speak to the officers supervisor. If this is not satisfactory go higher chief or mayor but always be proper and professional.

Welcome to the world we live in. Same thing happened to me. Say are you by any chance a young guy? Cops aren't here to help young guys, sorry we lose.
