Please please please don't give him away. You never know if he is going to a good home or not. Someone may say they will take care of him, and will turn around and won't take care of him at all. Take him to your local animal shelter and turn him in. They can find out if people have had animals in the past that were up to date on shots, if they have cruelty charges against them, if they live in an apartment they can find out if the landlord allows animals. Things like that. Please, don't just give him away. He needs a good home. Losing one home is bad enough. He needs to find a forever home.

It would be much better if you could find a personal friend or family member to take him in. 60% of the dogs in shelters get put to sleep. If you can't find a home for him with a friend, try Petfinder or Craigslist.
Do NOT advertise to give him away for free. He will most likely get picked up by a BYB or an animal testing lab in that case. Charge a price to ward these off, but make it low. No more than $100.
Be sure to perform a screening interview or a home visit if you can to make sure he has a good owner in his new home. It's what any responsible pet owner would do.

Go to Craiglist.com and place a post. Its free and I go to it all the time to see about the pets in my area. To make sure he gets a good home, some people ask for a small adoption fee. This is because there are some sickos out there that get free animals and use them as bait dogs in dogfighting. Also add a picture. I got my kitty from Craiglist. He's a sweety but its a great site that you can get almost anything. Good luck.

I'm sorry. You should put a ad in your local newspaper in the giveaway section, alot of people want a pet. Before you let him go to his new home you need to check, living conditions and the persons schedule, incase they don't have enough time for your furry friend. Every dog needs a large yard to excercise, and play, not a small apartment.
Hope your pup gets a good home!-Michelle!

I wouldn't take him to the shelter. He may be put to sleep (PTS) because there isn't enough room. Put an ad in the paper, and make sure you visit where your dog will be staying. Believe me, as an Animal Control Officer, we don't have much to go on with adoptions.. we don't do a full background check.. the most you'll get is a home visit.. and I pick up MANY dogs each month that were adopted from us!! This is common in MANY shelters!! Find this dog a home yourself.
WHY are you getting rid of the poor thing, anyway?? You could try TRAINING your dog.. you did know when you got him that they live about 12 years.... right???

IN finding him a home, screen the potential new owners. Make sure they are allowed to have animals where they live and that they are able to care for their dogs (gainfully employed or retired and capable of managing this dog). In addition, best case scenario is to charge for cost of the last shots the dog had, at least. Some people, who can dress nice and seem like they'd offer a good home, go around and get "free" dogs and sell them to research facilities.

Hi :-) You could try placing an ad in the classified section of http://www.petfinder.com/ . It is free. That is where we got one of our dogs.Maybe the new owner could send you pictures and updates once in a while, so you know how your dog is doing. We keep in touch with the family we got our Monty from. We send her pictures and updates. We get to brag about him to someone who cares to hear it and she gets the reassurance that her dog went to a good home.Hope this helps!

Why can't you keep him any longer? You made a commitment to him and you're the one who made him the way he is. If you're getting rid of him because of one of his habits have you tried to fix it? Have you seriously given it everything you've got?
If you sincerely can not keep the dog look into no-kill shelters and rescue organizations. Ask your friends. Please do not drop him off at a kill shelter if you really love him.

It might help if you post a picture and give you location.
