A friend of a friend is getting married next year, and has asked me to make handmade invitations for their wedding. I've never gone through the wedding process, so I don't know how much typical invites and reply cards cost. They would probably cost me about 75 cents to make per card, and maybe 10 - 15 min per card. So material cost for, say, 50 cards would be about $38 and maybe 10 hours all together.
How much should I charge? Keep in mind that I don't personally know these people, and I am currently in graduate school - my time can be precious! Thanks for any info.

Go online and look up a few companies that do hand-made invites... give them a call, tell them what your friends of the friends are looking for (pretend YOU'RE the one looking for them) and see how much THEY charge.
Also, I've sold things that I've made...ALWAYS allow room for extra money for materials...and remember that your time is VALUABLE! Don't under charge.

I made my own and it took a lot longer than I thought it would. You also have to take into account printer cost (if you are using a printer). I used up a full color and black cartridge printing (about $50 worth). If you are doing them by hand (sound like it since you said so long per card), than I would say it is even more tedious and hard to make them all consistent. I would say you should charge at least $150 and make sure you give them that quote before you start them. It also may be a good idea to give them a sample or two just to be sure it is what they want before you proceed.

The handmade cards I've heard of cost around $10-15 each. I think the best thing to do is figure in a reasonable amount for your time, add a little extra for spare supplies, and then round the whole thing up to give yourself a little leeway for your time estimate. For instance- $20 per hour @ ten hours= $200 for labor, plus $45 supplies, round up to $300 for 50 invites- $6 each. A bargain, if you ask me, and not a bad wage for something you can do at home in your spare time.
Good luck!

Ask what they think is fair.
Now if they say $15 for 50, you should say that your minumum charge is $40. Typical wedding invites and response cards are around that. They're usually $50 for 100, so you'd be saving them quite a sum of money. Don't worry and good luck!

As I am not having save the date cards I am sending out my wedding invites in Jan/Feb I am getting married in July Because July being in the Summer people will need to know well in advance about holidays and leave off work etc Give people at least 3 months notice in my opinion it will make it easier for them booking time off work if their work needs a certain amount of notice,or some jobs have a thing where only a certain amount of people are allowed to be off at once so giving your guests notice will be to their advantage as they are more likely to get time off work Also it will make travelling arrangements easier and booking hotels etc easier If your invites won't be ready until march then send them out when there ready thats your only choice really I would send the save the date cards asap

It depends on what they want and what you are making. And how much are they willing to spend?
I made my own. Simple kit, just printed them out. I paid $20 per box of 50. Nothing special. It took several hours cuz I have a slow printer.
