there's not a month that pass without me feeling so down - to the point where i just cry my eyes out and feeling really worthless and doesn't have anything to live for. sometimes i feel so blessed but at the moment i feel like it was all just a lie. it's like i really have no friends, no one cares.

I know God cares and He's there but most of the time I feel like He doesn't really listen to me. But He answers other people's prayer but I feel like I'm being ignored. I mean, just typing this is making me cry already. I know some young people in the church that live a "double life" you know - the type where they do the same thing as the world does, but they're still happy and blessed and all. I'm 22 and I don't understand why I have to go through so much crap like these? I have no friends at church not one, and it's really pulling me down. This sucks.

Not really a question, but I want to know if there's other people feeling the same thing as I do?

I, too, was touched by your sad feelings. I thought it might help you to know that there was someone in the Bible who felt very much the same way as you are feeling.
His name was Asaph. Here's what he said:

Psalm 73:1-18 (New International Reader's Version):

1 God is truly good to Israel.
He is good to those who have pure hearts.
2 But my feet had almost slipped.
I had almost tripped and fallen.
3 I saw that proud and sinful people were doing well.
And I began to long for what they had.
4 They don't have any troubles.
Their bodies are healthy and strong.
5 They don't have the problems others have.
They don't suffer as other people do.
6 Their pride is like a necklace.
They put on meanness as if it were their clothes.
7 Many sins come out of their hard and stubborn hearts.
There is no limit to their proud and evil thoughts.
8 They laugh at others and speak words of hatred.
They are proud. They warn others about the harm they can do to them.
9 They brag as if they owned heaven itself.
They talk as if they controlled the earth.
10 So people listen to them.
They lap up their words like water.
11 They say, "How can God know what we're doing?
Does the Most High God really know that much?"
12 Here is what sinful people are like.
They don't have a care in the world.
They keep getting richer and richer.
13 It seems as if I have kept my heart pure without any reason.
It didn't do me any good to wash my hands
to show that I wasn't guilty of doing anything wrong.
14 Day after day I've been in pain.
God has punished me every morning.
15 What if I had said, "I will speak as evil people do"?
Then I wouldn't have been faithful to God's children.
16 I tried to understand it all.
But it was more than I could handle.

So, Asaph almost stopped serving God because it seemed like the wicked were doing better than he was. He eventually realized that there was no future for the wicked:

17 It troubled me until I entered God's temple.
Then I understood what will happen to bad people in the end.
18 God, I'm sure you will make them slip and fall.
You will throw them down and destroy them.

27 Those who don't want anything to do with you will die.
You destroy all those who aren't faithful to you.
28 But I am close to you. And that's good.
Lord and King, I have made you my place of safety.
I will talk about everything you have done.

You are not alone in how you are feeling. Many who have felt very much like you have found satisfaction in learning what the Bible really teaches by studying the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses. They have also found true friends among those who are worshipping God with spirit and truth. (John 4:23, 24)

As many have said you need to keep pushing into god and try to pray for others as well as yourself you may find that at this point god wants you to look outwards, you've noted others living a double life maybe this is were your pray should lay in getting god to show you how to get them to be real.

On the depression front i strongly agree with the other's you do need something are you on the pill? I no from the Church perspective this may sound like an odd question but if your not and your moods are to do with Menstral cycle then this may well be all you need to do to stop the lows being so bad, otherwise you may find medication in the form of "happy pills" could well be helpful. Dont fret about them being a long term thing as often dr's recommend them short term as well.
Keep praying and god will come through and seek out mentors within your church.

Well first understand this the Christian walk is not a bed of roses--"ye shall enter the kingdom of heaven through MUCH tribulation". "Beloved think it not strange the hard trials you are going through because they are no different than the trials your brothers and sisters have gone through". Understand you are not alone. There is not one thing you are experiencing that other fine young Christian men and women haven't gone through too. It doesn't mean God has turned His back on you or on them.

Just look at all the people who answered your expression. They certainly seem to identify with exactly what you are going though.

You spoke of people living a double-life and not having the problems you have. Dear one, no one, I mean no one is getting a free ride. We all have our crosses to bear and yours is just getting heavy at this time and you need assitance lifting it.

I don't believe for one moment you have a mental problem or even a spiritual one. You're feeling down and going through a period that we all go through whether we want to admit it or not. If anyone out there says they never feel down or disappointed or in the dumps they simply are not being honest.

God loves you and needs you. He will never forsake you and that is a fact. People sometimes cannot be trusted but you can always put your trust and faith in the Lord, and maybe your prayers do not seem like they are being answered at this time, but don't give up on prayer--God's timing is not our timing. Hang in there sister.

Sorry you get so down, hon!

But the fact that you say, "there's not a month that pass without me feeling down..."

Leads me to think that you might be having hormonal-caused mood swings.

Can you check with your doctor? You might want to keep a calendar of your monthly cycle, and track your "blues" and see if they correlate. If they do, then you'll be able to get through those down times a little easier because you'll start to recognize them and know that they will pass.

Now for the spiritual part of your question...you feel like you aren't being heard. Everyone goes through that sometimes, and when that happens or lingers for awhile, sometimes it can be very helpful to get a spiritual mentor, someone who will pray WITH you and FOR you. You can also keep a prayer journal. That will help you keep track of your prayers and whether or not they were answered.

At the church where I used to work, the youth leader gave the kids a journal and told them to write ,"PUSH" on it. That stands for Pray Until Something Happens. The kids found it helpful.

Finally, I want to offer you some songs to listen to:

Who Am I --by Casting Crowns
The Real Me --by Natalie Grant
You Are God Alone--Joy Williams

I hope you like those and get your spirits raised by the message they hold.

Try changing the church you go to. And I have to agree with Goldcollision... it might just be depression and you may just need "Happy Pills" (that;s what my mother calls them too lol)

Corrick - every 14 days, if you're female, you are going through hormonal changes anyway. That could be the problem to begin with. It's not just Menstruation that causes such changes... but Ovulation will as well. Talk to your doctor about this. Considering Menstruation happens in a, generally, 28 day period... it's not hard to see that every 14 days you would go through something like that. Check your scheduel and then get with your doc.

You really need to talk to someone. Go to your church leader (priest, minister, pastor, preacher) and talk about this with them. Ask for some suggestions about groups you could join, or start within the church. Teach Sunday school, organize an outing for the kids, set up a mixer for singles in the church just like you and invite others from the community interested in finding out about your faith. Its hard for everyone to make a first step in meeting people and you take the pressure off if you make the first step.

I wish I could talk to you in person, but maybe this'll help... Your suffering because a lack of good knowledge going into your body, I'll bet your surrounded by a bunch of stupid people whom only care about money and they are not really friendly. Take care of your health and eat fresh fruits and vegetables as much as possible, watch the National Geographic Channel and other animal channels, these kinds of shows and things will cause your spirit to grow and catch up with your physical body and your depression will slowly subside, also try to stay in the presence of healthy smart people.

Sometimes church people are afraid to open up. you have to be around people you can be real with. Some churches don't offer this and some do. Also, look at how you can reach others. I am a believer in what you put out you will eventually get back.

Hey dont feel alone. I too have been there and Im only 15. The devil will do things to try to take you down and make you stray from God. God is always listening to you. And about crying, cry away, cry out to God and ask him to help you through this time in your life. Be strong and remember you are loved!
