No, don't worry. What you saw were probably the openings of the cat's anal glands. When they get full, the openings bulge a bit and are more noticeable. Your wiping them probably emptied them. Ordinarily they empty themselves at each bowel movement.

Right, the glands are on each side (horizontal) of the anus. Usually they pucker in, but when they're full they empty when the cat poops.

In dogs they get impacted really quite regularly, and emptying them stinks to high heaven, but cats don't get clogged much.
