Provided you understand that it is through the death of Jesus Christ on the cross, which paid for the sins of all those who believe in Him, and provided you pray to God, acknowledging this fact and sincerely asking to be forgiven, then you ARE forgiven. Accepting that Christ died on the cross to pay the price for all the awful things that we humans do will allow you to enjoy eternity in Heaven, rather than Hell. The Bible, however, does not guarantee you that just because you are forgiven that you will not pay for poor choices. The suffering that comes from sin is a natural event, bound to happen, but time does heal all wounds, and if you earnestly pray about it, you'll find the peace to eventually forgive yourself and the strength to overcome whatever circumstances you're now dealing with as a result of the poor choices you've made in the past.

Think of it this way, though, you WILL get through whatever trying times you're having now if you have faith. As the women in my family have always passed down from one generation to the next, "That which doesn't kill you will only make you stronger."

Keep the faith, pray that God gives you strength, and it's a guarantee that you'll come away from whatever the situation is
stronger than you were when you went into it.

Prophet Mohammad was once very sad and down. For a while revelations from God didn't come. He was having thoughts that may God has abandoned me or He is mad at me. He didn't know what wrong did he do. Then God revealed Surah Wadduha # 93 Translated by A . Yusuf Ali

1. By the Glorious Morning Light,
2. And by the Night, When it is still,
3. Thy Guardian - Lord Hath not forsaken
thee, Nor is He displeased,
4. And verily the hereafter Will be better for thee Than the
present,
5. And soon will Thy Guardian - Lord give thee (That
Wherewith) thou shall be well-pleased.
6. Did He not find thee An orphan and give thee shelter
(and care)
7. And He found thee Wandering, And He gave thee
guidance,
8. And He found Thee In need, and made Thee Independent
9. Therefore treat not The orphan with harshness,
10.Nor repulse the petitioner (Unheard - without hearing
them first)
11. But the Bounty Of they Lord - Rehearse and proclaim.

Every revelations that came addressing to Prophet are also for the guidance of the believers. Again My dear hardships are the tests of God. When you pass the tests, the life in
hereafter for you will be much better.

I think Bibliophile has given you the best answer. Guilt is a tool of Satan's. If he can convince you that you are not really forgiven, or that you cannot be forgiven, then he has sabotaged your Christian life before it has begun. Don't fall for it. If you have truly repented of your sins and asked forgiveness in the name of Jesus, then you have made a new beginning, and are a "new creature in Christ." The former things have passed away, and God literally remembers your sin no more. Only you remember, and you can put it from you.

You are a tripartite being [Luke 1:46,47; Ephesians 2:1; 1Thessalonians 5:23; Hebrews 4:12] consisting of a body, soul, and spirit. When you become a Christian your spirit, dead in trespasses and sin [Ephes.2:1]is replaced by the
Holy Spirit (Romans 8:9], but it is then necessary for your soul (mind, will and emotions)) to be changed (by sanctification) to be more Christ-like. So you can still suffer as a consequence of your old desires and sinful way of thinking and inappropriate emotional reactions. In addition Satan will be in repeated opposition to your sanctification.

Suffering remains as long as the belief in it remains. In truth, God's image is not subject to suffering, sin, or death, yet in this age all this evil seems to be real and we then tell ourselves God made it and dishes it out on an as needed basis. Infinite Love does not give Her children evil, for there is no evil there. We learn that the human experience is full of loopholes, so to speak, and suffering is one of them. We turn to God, and then find that we need to have a radical reliance on Him for every single need that we have. Through searching and understanding, suffering yields to Truth, for suffering has no father.

our sins are forgiven, if we accept Christ as payment for them- however this does not take suffering away- Jesus even said that we would suffer- but if we are believers, we know that one day the suffering will be over and then we will be with Jesus forever- we are to share in sufferings of Christ- faith would not grow if everything was perfect and going our way, now would it- I am forgiven totally of sins, but I still live in the flesh= I pray that I live more by the Spirit- but even if I never sinned again while on the earth- I would suffer, I have a chronic disease that causes severe pain every day- I would have wished that when I accepted Christ I would have been healed completely of that pain, but I was not - I was healed from sin- not physical illnesses= by His stripes we are healed, does not mean physical healing, in this life- He can heal, and I have seen Him heal- but He chooses not to heal me, I chose glorify Him in my suffering, because one day it will be turned to glory.

If you mean suffering *because* of your sins, the worldly consequences don't go away. You could kill someone and God will forgive you if you trust Jesus as the Lamb who takes away the sins of the world. That doesn't mean that God is going to stop the government from imprisoning you. God *always* deals justly with actions --- and we always reap what we sow. Fortunately for us, God visited His wrath for your sin on Jesus --- justice, and also mercy. *Someone* HAS to pay the cost for your sin; fortunately, Jesus did that for us. See? Justice is still executed, but it is exectued ON JESUS. The government on the other hand has no reason to have mercy on you. Only justice.

In terms of suffering not related to specific sins, this happens because the Lord using this stuff as a fire to purify you, and because His name is glorified when we suffer for Him as His Son suffered for us. I know it may sound like a crock when you're really in pain, but someday you'll look back at your suffering and be *thankful* for every part of it, because it is what caused you to seek God and increase in sanctification.

Just like an earthly father disciplines his child, God also disciplines us FOR OUR GOOD. Do you like being around a child who has been spoiled and never disciplined? They don't turn out to be a very good adult, do they? Same with us.

"It is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I might learn thy statutes." Psalm 119

Humans are much more complex than cats.
They hang on to guilt like a little kid with a security blanky.

If you are like many humans I know, you just haven't forgiven yourself yet.
Made mistakes?
Hurt someone else?
Abused someone else?
Can't let go of it?
Well, if you have asked God to forgive those mistakes then as far as He is concerned, it never happened.
He so to speak, throws those sins into the deepest part of the oceans where no human can ever find them to use against you.
I know that some humans will drag up your old sins but they are not perfect like God. You just have to move forward and not repeat those same old mistakes.
Satan, (he's the dark side in this episode) LOVES to keep us wrapped in guilt so we don't feel close to God. Don't fall for that nonsense, God is ACHING to be close to His children.

Micah 7:18 & 19

http://quod.lib.umich.edu/cgi/k/kjv/kjv-idx?type=DIV2&byte=3457242
[18] Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy.
[19] He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.

Here it is in more modern english from the new international version.

18 Who is a God like you,
who pardons sin and forgives the transgression
of the remnant of his inheritance?
You do not stay angry forever
but delight to show mercy.

19 You will again have compassion on us;
you will tread our sins underfoot
and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea.

You are vague. God is a forgiving god. You will need to relearn your path. You will feel as though you are suffering as you relearn your steps but in time you will find that you are the one that makes yourself suffer. One must crawl before one walks and one must walk before one runs so understand that time is an element and not lose your faith.

Suffering is part of being alive. However Hon, YOU are responsible for YOUR happiness. He wants you to be happy. He says to eat, drink and be merry.. You need to forgive YOURSELF.. Remember that Jesus blood washed away your sin. God doesn`t see it any more.. Let it go. Seek the truth and the truth shall set you free..
