A University of Wisconsin System regent has quit because he's upset over how the governor has treated illegal immigrants.

Jesus Salas sent his resignation letter Friday morning as Gov. Jim Doyle signed the new two-year state budget. Salas accused Doyle in his letter of not fighting hard enough for a budget provision that would have let illegal immigrants who graduate from Wisconsin high schools pay in-state tuition. Lawmakers stripped the measure from the document.

Salas went on to say he's angry with Doyle for signing laws that require proof of citizenship to get a driver's license and prohibit illegal immigrants from getting state-subsidized home loans.

"In spite of the fact that Latinos share the same fundamental values that brought generation of European immigrants in the same manner to Wisconsin, it is only we who are 'illegal,''' he wrote. "Everyday there are those, individuals as well as representatives of communities as a whole, including state entities who are contriving ways to further deprive us of our US Constitutional rights to life and liberty.''http://www.startribune.com/462/story/1510388.html

“...Latinos share the same fundamental values that brought generation of European immigrants in the same manner to Wisconsin...”
“Huh? Could someone translate that gibberish for me?”

I think he means all those Swedes, Norwegians and Germans who were snuck in by Canadian “coyotes”

wow how did he slip through apparently no one heard him talk before. what a rock. the constitution is not the world constitution it's the U.S. constitution thus it only applies to U.S. citizens. now here is the hard part so pay attention an illegal is not a citizen so they do not have the protection of our constitution. he did us a favor by resigning morons do not belong in places of authority as stupid people tend to believe what they say. another state made habitable by the refusal to accommodate illegals. what are we at about 6 states now? this could be cheaper then we think to get rid of them.

Adios Salas and good riddance to ya. He clearly doesn't hold the same fundamental values this country is based on any more than illegals do. He won't be missed.

Inquiring minds want to know - Is Salas legal? Is he engaged in any illegal activities with illegals? Perhaps he should try Mexico. I wonder what he would think of the way they treat illegal aliens?

This Salas guy is an idiot, is what he is really saying, and is using some stupid, totally irrelevant argument that has no bearing on anything.

It is good he resigned; there are more than enough stupid fools in government already, so getting rid of one moron is a good thing.

Jesus Salsa sounds like a nut. I'm sure they can find a better regent. It sounds like a blessing for Wisconsin that he resigned.

Salas can go suck a rotten egg for all I care....and who really cares what he thinks? I am sick and tired of illegals who THINK they are entitled to something that doesnt belong to them...the only thing they are entitled to is to be in their home country....and kudos for Doyle for growing a backbone...

I always figure that resignations like this are one step ahead of the ax. I mean, if anyone would miss him, he'd have a chance to be influential on issues that matter to him, wouldn't he?

Bye, bye, Salas. AND, good ridance.

Thank God that there are some people in charge that care about their constituents.

What part of illegal ( thus breaking the law) does this guy not get. We don't reward law breakers we punish them.
