Herod that is portrayed as evil and not BIRTHDAYS?

" On Herod's birthday the daughter of Herodias danced for them and pleased Herod so much that he promised with an oath to give her whatever she asked. Prompted by her mother, she said, ' Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist. ' The king was distressed, but because of his oaths and his dinner guests, he ordered that her request be granted and had John beheaded in prison. "

Is that all the "Bible proof" the JWs came dream up to ban children's birthday parties?
No wonder there are more former JWs than active ones! God bless and comfort all Jws and us all with his grace.

6On Herod's birthday the daughter of Herodias danced for them and pleased Herod so much 7that he promised with an oath to give her whatever she asked. 8Prompted by her mother, she said, "Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist." 9The king was distressed, but because of his oaths and his dinner guests, he ordered that her request be granted 10and had John beheaded in the prison.

How many people celebrate their brthdays like this today?

Actually, Herod WAS evil, although he didn't realize it, until after he gave his oath. In Biblical times, oaths WERE unbreakable!

It is neither, Herod broke at least three (3) of God the Father's laws.
1. He lusted for the daughter and the wife of another.
Matthew 5:28
2. He made an oath
Matthew 5:34
3. He killed, he was angry with his brother without a cause.
Matthew 5:22

There are three evil people here - Herod, his wife, and Herod's daughter.

Mostly the mother, though...

There is nothing at all that would even hint at birthdays being evil!

Jehovah's Witnesses believe strongly in God Jehovah and in his Son Jesus Christ.

Regarding birthday celebrations, bible students are encouraged to consider:
: 0% of faithful biblical Jews celebrated birthdays
: 0% of first century Christians celebrated birthdays
: 100% of birthdays celebrated in the bible were by debauched enemies of God (See Mark 6:17-29; Gen 40:19-22)

Bible historians (M'Clintock, Strong, and others) have noted that faithful Jews of the bible did not celebrate birthdays, and that ancient pagan birthday celebrations were at least partially intended to honor the patron gods of the particular day.

By comparison with such paganisms, the bible does not even tell us the birthdates of Jesus or ANY of his apostles!

Since such celebrations are not required in true worship, and can easily become a distraction, so Jehovah's Witnesses focus their attention elsewhere. In particular, they are focussed on the preaching work which *IS* a requirement for Christians:

(Luke 10:1-17) [Jesus] the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.

How about Herodias? Aren't women always the ones to lead a man astray? Ever since Eve.

I think the source of evil was Herod's lust for his wife's daughter who was dancing in order to stir up that lust. Probably doing the dance of the 7 veils or something like that.

The source of the evil was the adulterous woman, who wanted to kill the man who had called her exactly what she was, an adulterous. Try calling such a woman by the same name, today, and you will get the same response, but this particular woman had the power to get what she wanted, but only because God allowed it to be. Great is the reward of those who suffer wrongfully for Christ's sake.

Birthday's should be celebrated, because God is life, and our family is a blessing from Him. We do not worship the one born, but the ONE who gave them life.
