I was applying for a credit card and told them that I was working for my dad, since he is a manager in a company. But I'm not actually hired there but my dad just needed help. He pays me though for the hours i helped him. So, will the credit card company call at my dad's work?

I have worked with a whole lot of people on credit problems, and getting them credit cards was part of it.

Not once (that I know of) have they called to verify employment status.

But note that these are NOT huge credit card limits. They were all under $2000 (most $500) and they are not going to do a lot of investigations for such a small loan. Credit checks are all the do.

Now if you are looking for a $10k limit, they could look closer at your income.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over this.

It depends on the situation. Usually there is no need to call to check on employment, but if there is anything suspicious about the application or credit file that makes them question the employment or income, they will call HR to verify that you are employed. If they need to confirm or verify anything with you, they will generally call the most logical number based on the time of day. If it's during working hours, they'll call the business number first.

If you don't have a credit already established, they most certainly will call to confirm your employment.

Yes they will check. They called my place of employment.
