Atheism is the lack of religion. And, I don't resent your presence in this section at all. Some of you bring up some good debate. On the other hand, some atheists don't know what they're talking about and just slam people. But it works the same way for people of the Christian faith. There are some who know what they are talking about, and some who don't. While I would like people to recognize God, I realize people won't so I am not one of the ones who come in and resent you and harass you. I voice my opinion, and let it go.

initially generalizations fail, not all Christians think of atheism is a faith. Secondly this question is slightly doubtful, so i think of your base line have been given lost ambiguity. finally Atheism isn't some thing absolutely everyone believes in, that's what that's. You the two renowned it or you do not. i don't "have confidence" in atheism like i don't have confidence in the colour blue. Atheism isn't concept in something, i presumed it became into loss of concept. Peace and reward = )

Immaturity, and a denial of what kind of people Christians really are. No honest person needs to resent or fear the honest belief of another, regardless of what that belief may be.

I infer from your question that you are an Atheist. Well and good. So is my boyfriend. So I am Gnostic. There we are. I do respect Atheists for being honest enough to step out of the social norms and question religion. And to question is a good thing. Unfortunately, many religionists don't like to be questioned for fear of losing their precarious position in the eyes of their fellow churchgoers. Somehow, there is the assumption that debate can only be mastered by those who are well learned and guided by a "holy spirit". To falter destroys that standing. These are, as you know, false assumptions.

I think some of them can't comprehend anyone who doesn't have a religion. I know some of them have a problem with any religion that isn't Christianity, but anyone without one really throws them for a loop. I'm guessing it does because they can't understand that not everyone would think and believe the way they do. To me that is limited and insecure thinking. Also, that type of Christian enjoys having their opinions regurgitated to them on a regular basis.

I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the concept that the absence of religion is ... religion. Hmm.

Hmmm.

Beats me. But some of the same ones who resent your presence also seem to resent mine, so I'm probably not qualified to answer anyway!

There seem to be two major types of R&S Christians...

(1) Those who think atheist "God-haters" come to the R&S section as a hobby, and that those atheist "God-haters" ought to screw off, &

(2) Those who think atheist "God-haters" come to the R&S section to practice their "religion" of atheistic "God-hating" (and ought to screw off).

Both groups of course completely misunderstand what "atheism" truly is and want to sit serenely in a sanitary little R&S bubble wherein only fellow Christians can pat each other on the back and agree that God loves them.

I like how some argue it's a religion and requires faith, and some like to argue that atheism isn't protected by the Constitution because it isn't.

I'll agree with them if it means they'll shut up and let me have my (ir)religious freedoms.

Excellent point. Have a star!

Of course atheism isn't a religion. To say it is would be to miss the fundamental necessity of a religion: that there be a deity who is a figure of worship. Its like saying 'science is a religion because you believe in it', and foolishly equates belief with faith in a divine creator. It is the laziest of all arguments in the R&S section to my mind, and I'm delighted you've revealed yet another layer of delicious weakness!

It's just like in romance novels, when the woman with the ripped bodice keeps saying, "No, no, no!!!!!" when there is "yes, yes YES!!!" in her eyes.

Clearly, the Fundies are hot for your body Zilla.

Hold out for marriage, I hear they are all rich. Don't let 'em kiss you until then.
