Not a printed Bible, but free audio studies (15 minutes each) by Dr. David Reid. Excellent series.

The ASV is quite accurate. The NIV is very good English very easy to understand -- but it has taken a few liberties with some verses, so care needs to be paid to this so as to understand things properly.

If you need help with portions of the Bible you don't understand, ask me. I'll try to answer bythebible with as little personal commentary as is possible.

There are many fine Bibles out there. The KJV is very respected, but it is a bit too old which makes it harder to read.

Go to any bix box bookstore. Buy the Contempory English Version. It's much easier to understand in plain English. I would also recommend finding one with a commentary in it like a Study Bible or Students Bible. The NIV is okay, but there are easier versions out there. I gave you a link to an online bible.

The best thing to do is get a good study Bible, not one of those "Life Application" things but one that actually explains and interprets the text and puts it in context.

The best one I've found is the New Jerusalem Bible:

But you can't really go wrong with the Oxford Study Bible or the New Interpreters Study Bible, either.

Peace to you.

I would go for the KJV. Although the language is bit archaic and difficult,it is more precise in its meaning than today's English. Plus you can take the time to realy comtemplate and meditate on the meaning. This will lead to a better understanding God's Word.

Pick any Bible -- I'd suggest Revised Standard Version in your case -- and get Isaac Asimov's Guide to the Bible.

YES! A just completed! Orthodox study Bible. This is about as pure as it gets without going back to the Old Greek or Hebrew versions......and the Study aspect explains sections.

Well, the New American Standard is good. But you need a
gifted Pastor-Teacher to sit under to teach you.
