You have to have Comprehensive coverage to pay for the fire damage to your car.
Liability coverage pays for bodily injury and property damage that you cause to other people - that you are legally liable for.
You can not be liable to yourself. Therefore, liability will not pay you for the damage to your own car.

Sorry to hear about your misadventure with the car, but it gets worse... liability insurance only covers you in the event you cause an accident against someone else's property. it doesnt do anything to cover you. for that you would have to be carrying comprehsive auto insurance. you didnt mention the year make and model, but you could check to see if there was still any manufacturer warranty left on your car. maybe the reason why it caught on fire was due to a recall work order and if thats the case you might be able to get it fixed. Also, if you had previously financed the purchase of the car and purchased any extended warranty at the time you may also still be somewhat covered if that policy was still in force. you might wanna so some checking, but i got the feeling that chances are you're gonna get stuck on this one. good luck

Your liability insurance will not cover anything that happens to your car. Liability insurance only covers damage that you cause to property owned by someone else or injuries that happen to someone else. Liability insurance only covers what happens to your car if someone else did it to your car and that person is the one with the insurance. If you had collision insurance, not just liability, then your collision insurance will cover it. In some states, the government will pay for damage caused by potholes that the government failed to repair. This is not true everywhere.

Sorry to say, liability insurance is just to protect "the other guy" not yourself. If you don't have comprehensive coverage, you are out of luck. Hope it wasn't an expensive car.

No. Liability covers damage you cause to somebody elses property. Did your flaming car burn down an overpass or something? If your car was all that was damaged, your comprehensive coverage should pay for it.

If there's a fire department service charge, they'll bill you. Your liability won't pay. If you have fire coverage, aka, comprehensive coverage, that covers the fire damage, and on some policies, the fire department service charge.

"Liability" for damage you cause to Some One or or Someone Else's Property but sadly in this case you were "Under-insured" and the cost is all yours.
