An earlier post prompted me to ask this question.

What are your favorite movies that highlight people with disabilities?

My "top three " are:
"If You Could See What I Hear",
"My Left Foot",
and "The Fisher King"

What's attached itself to you?

All well and good for people with physical disability. Society see those types of people "inspirational" But society still have problem accepting and give equal rights to people with intellectual disability.

There are some absolutely amazing independent film-makers with disabilities making incredible films. I started doing a disability film festival because I wanted people to see these instead of all the mainstream films that are created by abled- bodied folk and star able-bodied folk as people with disabilities. (Not all- just the majority.)

You can look at past year of my film festival offerings at http://www.ideaas.info and click on the film festival.

I do think My Left Foot, Rory O'Shea was Here, Breathing Lessons, and Liebe Perla are a few of the absolute best.

I was going to say My Left Foot , I'd forgotten if you could see what I hear.

Children of a Lesser God , an old Disney movie , Atta Girl , Kelly, with a very young Beau Bridges as a guide dog trainer.
Wait until Dark with a blind Audrey Hepburn, A patch of blue with Sidney Poitier and of course the Miracle Worker with Patty Duke.

Forrest Gump -- I always joke around and say that no matter how fast I run, I can never get my leg braces to fall off like in the movie!

Radio -- It is one of the most inspiring movies of all time.

Murderball -- A story about the USA Quad Rugby Team, if you are a physically disabled sports buff, that is the movie for you!
