going to out doesnt mean that your friendship has to end when/if the relationship does. if you both like each other then i dought a relationship would end badly, so i dont c how it would affect your friendship....also i went through a very similar situation... we went out and eventually broke up but where still rlly good friends
anyways good luck

You have to respect his feelings. Do not force him into a relationship. Think about this : Once you do start dating, it is going to be akward, because he isn't even gonna want to be in the relationship. Then your friendship and your relationship are both messed up, and may never go back to normal. So ask yourself this: Is it worth it? When you are dating, is it going to be like you imagined? Or are you going to feel like you are dragging him around? Just leave the whole dating situation alone ans stay ONLY friends. If he does ask you out, make sure it isn't because he thinks you want to do it. Make sure his heart is in it too. If it is then go for it! Just make sure everything is right. Keep in mind that when you do break up, your friendship might be permanently ruined.

A lot of times when people say that. Its because they just like you as a friend. If he really liked you more then that, he would be with you. Don't ruin your friendship. Enjoy your friendship and see what happens. Don't plan anything or make it happen.

This situation is one of the most common and most difficult issues to deal with of all romantic problems. In your case he is afraid of ruining your friendship on the off chance it does not work out.He has legitimate concerns and shows that he is thinking ahead.Assuming that he loves you and his fear of ending your friendship is for real, it is up to you to reassure him that 1)you don't plan on ending any romantic affair with him any time soon 2)even if for some unknown reason,it does terminate, it will not impact your mutual friendship and respect for one another. In other words, you will continue to remain friends no matter what occurs. That may finally convince him to take a chance on a romantic relationship with you. I wish you the best.

I have to agree with the previous poster. I did the same thing except I took it to the next level and married the guy. When the marriage broke up, I lost not only my husband, but my best friend as well. As hard as it may be now, you will be gald you let it go and remained friends in the long run.

Respect his wishes. I know it'll be hard, but I "went there" and pushed the issue with my best guy friend (whom I was "in love with") and ruined the friendship. We haven't spoken since 2001 *sigh*

The quickest way to ruin a friendship?
Sleep with him.
It will never be the same.
Believe him...he's so right.

respect his wishes and remain friends. My best friend respected my wishes and 7 years later we are still friends... You would want him to respect your wishes if you weren't intersted in a relationship with him.
