I'm asking for one for christmas, and I have NO former experience with a keyboard. But I have played clarinet for 3 years, would it be super hard learning to play the keytar?

Well you really should learn piano the regular way first. Yes they play the same as the keytar( i personally HATE calling it that) BUT its more difficult because you would have to be leaning over looking at your hands while trying to learn.

Learn Keytar

For the most part, a keytar will likely be an instrument that you play with your right hand while controlling other aspects of your sound with your left. Depending on which model keytar you buy, the instrument may only have around three octaves to begin with. Your left hand may thus wind up controlling your pitchwheel or other controls. You may also be able to play with both hands, although this is awkward. Either way, you will still want some music theory and keyboard/piano training behind your keytar skills. Your right hand, at least, will be going through the same motions and using the same keys.
