Dear friend,
I usually use -Te quiero or le quiero. It is true the word also can be translated as -I want,I like but it defenitely also means --I love. Te amo is a very good word to use too. When I say in Spanish-- Los quiero a mis nietos-- it definitely means I love my grandchildren. It sounds better than--Los amo a mis nietos.

I LOVE yOU in spanish has two meanings. One is : te amo" it is related with love like when you say to your girlfriend : i love you. The other meaning is : te quiero. It is used to your family or your friends. I hope that this can help you. Bye and good luck.
