I can't understand the way these people talk. Their accents are terrible. I'm sure Indians are nice people, but I can freaking understand them, and I hate how many of these US companies have outsourced to India. Do you hate this as much as I do?

This is terrible, and it's not just AOL, it's all sorts of companies, many of my credit cards, etc, I wind up talking to BA BU from India, who tells me his name is Frank, yeah right. Hey, I like Indian food, I like curry, and I used to work for an Indian guy at a Liquor store in NJ growing up. I have nothing against them as people, they are hard workers and generally great people, way better than muslims in the middle east. Indians are Hindu. But I can't understand them for the most part. Their English accents are horrible and they really try their best, but it just doesn't cut the mustard. They try to walk me through the problem, and I get so frustrated. I WANT TO SPEAK WITH AN ENGLISH SPEAKING AMERICAN or someone from England, Ireland, Scotland, Aus, NZ, Canada, I don't care, but at least have English as your native tongue.

This is a result of globalization. These call centers can operate more cheaply than one in the USA, because of the local pay scales. All they need is some people who can (allegedly) speak English and follow a script. Companies shore up their bottom lines by sending American jobs overseas. Already a growing proportion of jobs in the USA are "Service" jobs. The maunufacturing is mostly gone, and the jbs that don't require physical presence. (Like phone centers) Why do you think there are so many telemarketers calling you? Some poor fellow works for peanuts calling up random numbers selling stuff. Multiply that by thousands, Arrgh!

That's Mumbai, hahaha! It's the way it is, but I agree with you that it can be frustrating. I love their American names, though. As if that fools anybody. I have to admit that I find it kind of cool that I am talking to someone on the other side of the world, though. I always ask them about the weather, and what they had for lunch, and how the traffic is, and if they live close to work and what are they wearing, etc. Of course everything is recorded and is probably costing the company big bucks, but I figure, what the heck! I grab every opportunity to learn about the world I live in. You should try that, it is a great release of frustration.

Many many companies do this because it costs next to nothing to employee these people.

If you were running a company, and you had the option of saving millions of dollars a year, just by building a call center in another country?

It sucks for us, because we can't understand those mother ******* half the time, but you have to put your self in a companies prespective.

Well if you cant understand their accent call your indian friend and three way with her so she can translate Inglish to English for you. Or you can just curse at the guy and hope he doesn't understand you wither, so he can give the phone line to somebody else, a person that talks better.

I hate it because it take jobs away from Americans. I think if the product is made for the USA and the profits are made from American people, then the jobs should go back to the same people. Out sourcing pisses me off.
