My primary purpose in life is to not die...if i wake up tommorow morning not dead then I had a very fulfilling previous day

I think I have many purposes. I would hope the first and foremost is to live my life day in and day out as a representative of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Being kind, patient, loving, compassionate, merciful. I fail at this more than I care to admit, though. But I sure do love Jesus. More everyday.
You ask about an afterlife, my opinion. I'm a person who has studied and come to believe the bible. If you repent of your sins and confess Christ as your savior, you will have eternity with God. If you don't, you won't. That is what I believe.

Life means "being in existence". So your question is "why am I in existence?" This question requires God.
