I have 2 JRT's and both of them recently got bumps by their eyes. they appeared in less than a day and have gotten rather large within a couple hours. 2 weeks ago they got fleas!!! WOW i know i have no clue how both of these happened. I took one of them to have the vet to have her checked out we told the vet that she had played with a pitbull a couple times about a month ago and that, that dog recently got ringworm, they did a black light scan and she said that's what it is but somehow i find it hard to believe this. Both of them have them only like right on their eye lids(side of eye kind of). If anybody has a clue what this coule be please let me know

Don't tell me to go to a different vet because i will but until then i would like to see if anybody else has had this problem

i forgot to say the reason i think it may not be ringworm is because of the fact that the eye is such an easy way for something to get into the body, mean something live and tiny could get in there very easily. And they were checked for mites when we brought them in there the first time...

Keep in mind that ringworm is not a parasite or worm, it is a fungus. It is easily spread and sometimes hard to contain and/or treat, although it's not life threatning. Seems like it was caught early. Usually ringworm looks like a raised red patch of irritated skin and it's crusty. Can be treated with topical creams or oral medication. Did your Vet do a fungal culture or just use the woods lamp (black light)? A fungal culture takes about 2 weeks, but it will give you a definite answer. I'd go to another Vet and get a second opinion if you are unsure, otherwise a bump near the eye could be one of many things. Good luck and be sure to wash your hands, clothes, bedding etc frequently incase it is indeed ringworm.

Why on Earth don't you believe the vet?? They didn't go to medical school for 5 years to learn nothing you know!

Do you actually know what ringworm is? It's a fungus. It is not a worm at all, therefore it will not be crawling into the eyes. Eyelids are a common place for ringworm infection.

So you don't know how these things happened: I'll tell you, though the vet also could have if you'd actually asked. Animals do not need to go outside to get parasites. Flea can enter the home easy as any bug. Ringworm can also be found on inanimate objects, like field fences - this is how horse owners often catch it.

How about you get the ringworm treatment your vet offered, and some proper flea treatment while you're there. And next time you doubt a vet's diagnosis, ask them to EXPLAIN it.

Yep, this question really wound me up. I just don't know why people pay money to take their animal to a vet, have all this confusion about what's going on and NOT ask the vet! What do you think they're there for exactly? And why then turn to a bunch of unqualified strangers on Yahoo for answers, why not just pick up the phone to the vet???

in all risk the initiating of Cherry Eye that's a weak spot of the connective tissue that attaches the gland to the encircling structures of the attention. The weak spot of the connective tissue facilitates the gland to prolapse. as quickly as the gland prolapses and is uncovered to the dry air and irritants, it may grow to be contaminated and/or start to swell. The gland many times turns into annoyed, crimson, and swollen. there is from time to time a mucous discharge and if the animals rub or scratch at it, they might traumatize the gland extra or in all risk create an ulcer on the floor of the attention. it relatively is corrected surgically, yet examine with your vet.
