My husband gets this and his is related to the same fungal infection that causes athlete's foot and jock rash. You could try a super absorbent antifungal powder and keep the area really dirt. This works for my husband. If it doesn't for you, see your doctor.

You said you've been to the doctor, and he doesn't know what it is. It might be a yeast infection, which itches and burns. It's similar to Athlete's foot, but there are many different fungus that attack the body. Have him do a culture, and if he won't go to a dermatologist. I was thinking staph, which is bacterial, but it's not oozing or spreading, so probably not. It's important that the doc isolates the cause, because the wrong ointment won't help, is costly and a waste of time and money.
Yeasts love dark moist places. Think armpit, groin, fat folds. When does it happen? Hot summer weather, dry cold winter, when you sweat a lot, have lots of layers on. Do you sweat a lot. The other possibility is an allergy to your deodorant, soap or powder if you use one. Try not using anything for a while. And use a plain glycerine soap without perfumes. They can be irritating. Make sure you air dry thoroughy before getting dressed. You can use a bit of corn starch, yes the cooking kind as a powder. If you wash thoroughly you won't offend. It's not the sweat that makes people smell, it's the bacteria that grows in it. I would first try eliminating all chemicals to see if that helps. But, if you have health insurance, go to a dermatologist.

Get some Bag Balm from Wal-Mart. It comes in a square green can. Use it often until the rash clears up. Chances are it's a heat rash and your pits are always very warm. Be sure your clothing comes up as far as possible into your pit area so the skin is not touching. The Bag Balm is for cow's udders so it is probably in the pet Department, but it is the greatest stuff. It will take a couple of days or more to work so don't give up. I used it on my children for diaper rash when nothing else worked.

sounds like a type of psoriosis, I have the same thing under my arms too, the only thing that is any good, is moisturiser. (well that kind of works for me.) had it 22 years now you sort of get used to it, but don't! (if that makes sense)
getting fresh air will help too, it's a part of the body that stays moist, and thats part of the problem, try to keep it clean too (using just water) sweat won't help the situation. MIne used to come and go, but I can't remember the last time it went, maybe 8/9 years ago.
Keep on at your doctor, there are that many things out there that could help clear it.
you could also try Garlic, saltwater baths, herbal tea, change in your diet, seaweed (either eaten or bathed in) mud baths, there is so much you could try, it's just a case of trying different things, you need to get it confirmed by your doc as to what it is, if he doesn't know and I doubt he will get him to refer you to a dermatoligist! they may be able to help even more, if not at least they can tell you what it is. but I'm pretty sure by your description that its a form of psoriosis.
