OK I'm making homemade pizza for my GF next weekend and I want a great wine to go with it. I'm not a wine hobbyist (as you can tell) I want something that will be good, but not break the bank because I'm a poor college student. I read somewhere that a Joel Gott 2005 Zinfandel would be good, but I'm not here I can it here in Nebraska. Any suggestion would be most appreciated.

If you're looking for a red to go with pizza steer more towards a Shiraz or a Petit Verdot. Two wines that are fantastic over here (in Australia), which i know are exported to the states (though i'm not sure where) are Yalumba Wines (for the Shiraz) and Pennyfield (do an amazing Petit Verdot).
By the way my reason for recommending these 2 varieties is that the good ones will have an awesome warming affect with the pizza.

You're a total sweetie for doing homemade pizza for your girlfriend!

To go with pizza, choose a regional Italian red wine. Some affordable choices would be Cecchi Chianti, Monte Antico Toscana, Santa Cristina Sangiovese, Straccali Chianti, Allegrini Valpolicella, or Cantina Zaccagnini Montepulciano d'Abruzzo.

For the least expensive, yet yummy option, try Citra Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. It's got a nice fruity earthiness and it's seriously only about $5 a bottle! Another option would be the slightly carbonated and low-alcohol Reunite Lambrusco. It's very popular and quite tasty with pizza :)

Best to you...

A zinfandel would be an OK choice...though not my first choice. I normally have Zinfandel with bbq and not italian. You also do not mention what sort of pizza you are making. If it is traditional style with tomato sauce, then red is definately the way to go.

I would probably go with a Chianti from Italy like Ruffino or perhaps a sangiovese either from italy or from California. If you have one of those big mega mart liquor stores like a Bevmo they might have Sangiovese from Luna and/or Silverado. Coppola also makes one called Rosso which the winery affectionaly refers to as Spaghetti Red.

You might also try a malbec or a tempranillo. I love El Felino from Argentina.

I think you have a problem with the Pizza. This is a dominating food destroy your mouth in tasting anything else. Complex flavor in good wines will be lost. I suggest something hardy, not complex, and not expensive. You want to enjoy the pizza and have something red to wash it down. Perhaps a sangiovese, zinfandel from Sonoma County, or a petite syrah.

Are you attempting to contain the beers as a praise to the dinner or in simple terms some thing for the non-wine drinkers to drink? EDIT: nicely, for my area i ought to attempt to pair beer to the nutrition so as that the final journey is more suitable yet i imagine a minimum of you need to bypass for some thing good like Sam Adam's Boston Lager. you in simple terms get married once good? Sam Adam's is a beer that maximum pedestrian beer drinkers should be happy to drink on condition that they're no longer procuring it, and maximum beer geeks ought to easily sense free they would not be compelled to drink Budweiser. i don't believe of you go with to have a range of beers if you're not to any extent further pairing them to the meal, "gentle" beer drinkers will proceed to exist i'm effective. A keg should be your spectacular guess and that i for my area do not imagine it really is tacky. IMO ingesting out of a can or bottle is more suitable tacky than having a suitable pour served in a suitable glass. i imagine an 8 gallon keg should be more suitable than sufficient. As for the wine, a million bottle in preserving with 2 human beings feels like a secure type. perchance tack on some more suitable bottles for sturdy degree. it really is complicated to assert what number of folk will bypass for wine, and what percentage will bypass for beer yet like you stated bottled wine it really is not any longer drank would nicely be kept for yet another day. i'm a pink guy myself with a lean in the direction of Cabernet over Merlot yet my area of understanding is beer so i will go away the wine advice to someone more suitable knowledgeable.
