Some Freeview boxes have a built-in UHF modulator and can be connected directly to the aerial input.
Note, not all the Freeview boxes can do this. You can't tell just by looking at the box, because they all (?) have a UHF output connector which is used for loop-through (eg. connecting to a VCR).
The only way you can tell if yours has a UHF modulator is to look at the instruction manual, or the packaging. If you don't have those any more, try doing a web search for your model of freeview box.

If your box does have a built-in modulator, just plug it in (aerial to freeview box, plus a lead from the UHF ouput connector on the freeview box to the TV aerial socket) and do a channel search on your TV. Then use this channel on the TV when you want to watch freeview.

Yes. The right way to connect a Freeview box is as follows:
Connect Freeview box to the lead from the aerial, then connect other soacket on Freeview box to aerial socket on TV. You'll have to manually tune the TV into the Freeview box though, which might be tricky, but the Freeview box should have some sort of menu screen on it when you first switch it on, so look for that.

If by freeview you mean the local channels- yes.
You can get channels VHF 2-13 and UHF 14-69,
if available with an external antenna.
