They are not doing anything illegal, just basically living.....but that just makes it even harder to make them stop.

I am living in Paris, and the walls (and ceilings are pretty thin) also we have a fake wooden floor than doesn't muffle any sounds.
The family above my bf and I is a family with some (at least one i dont know)....but ever day, we hear continuous 4 year old running . this kid must have unlimited energy, and the apartment is not even that big, I don't know how he runs everywhere. And it is loud and clear....every day.... other daily sounds we here are chairs scraping across the floor, high heels clacking all around, and something that sounds like a bowling ball being dropped on the floor (seriously, i dont know what they're doing...)
to make it worse i have a mezzanine bedroom very close to the ceiling, and they are very early risers, so they have woken me up plenty of times.
we have written them a letter under their door, but nothing has changed.... what should i do?

my bf (who is french) wants to bang pots and stuff in the middle of the night and make noise to wake them up to show them what is it like. this is not my natural inclination. if they put down a rug, took off their shoes, made their kid stop running, stopped dropping bowling balls? the problem would stop...... i dont have any ideas of what to do now.
i am in university, and the noises always either come while i am sleeping or am trying to study

Sucks huh? Wish I could help but were in Romania and have similar apartments and out upstairs neighbors NEVER sleeps. I will hear the vacuume and washing machine at 2am! Not to mention chars scraping so she can vacuum, she also takes baths at 3 and 4am, I can hear her tub draining also. During the day it's not a big deal al all because life muffles some of these everyday noises but from 12-5 am it is quiet except for her.. Sorry I wish I could help but I am having the same problem.

alright...what are the 'women human beings' doing upstairs? you're doing the right component. yet whilst i've got been you, i might have long gone upstairs and discover out what's relatively taking place first. If that is a few thing beside the point, then you definitely're on the right steps to whinge the difficulty to the administrative. What approximately chatting with the 'women human beings' first? Voice out and clarify to them how the sound impacts you and that is annoying. i be conscious of ways it feels getting no longer sufficient sleep. And in the event that they save doing a similar component in spite of each little thing the memories and discussions, stomp appropriate forward to the administrative. the administrative has the utmost authority to the two deliver a stop or to call the community police. those 'women human beings' might properly be arrested for what they do..disrupting peace. desire this permits.

The bowling ball is the kid(s) jumping off furniture!!
Offer to babysit.

Not saying you are doing this, but I had the opposite problem; we weren't perfect, but the girl below was just complaining too much. The office kept sending us these stupid notices. We finally went to the office, and explained to them, that they could kick us out, but the next people would be worse, and nothing would have been solved.

She was gone the next week.

All is to say that I think you should move, or even offer to swap apartments.

You should have figured out by now to sleep somewhere else, no?

When they drop the bowling ball, pound on your ceiling with a broom handle. Sorry, not much else you can do about the other noises.

If they are doing it late at night (say 9pm-9am) then you should complain.

BUT, if they are doing it during daytime normal hours, suck it up.

You chose an apartment, and you are now experiencing apartment life, especially when there are other apartments above you.

I've lived in apartments for many years, first floor, and I DO NOT complaining or try to seek "revenge" on "loud" people, especially if they are only loud during daytime hours.

The only thing you can do is move.

Offer to trade them apartments.

Try knocking on their door again and ask them politely to keep it down. If this does not work you will have to speak to your landlord/lady about this problem and hopefully your problem will be solved!

You've tried a nice letter. They're not doing anything wrong as you say and kids will be kids.

Sorry, you're powerless over this situation. Get used to it or move.

Tell them politely to chain up their kid and not wear shoes in the apartment.
